Empowering students to succeed after graduation and pursue their dreams since 2001!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The same gym where an NBA dream was born now bears the name of the player who turned that dream into reality. Students, staff, family, and community members gathered to celebrate a full-circle moment as the Smedley Elementary gymnasium was officially renamed after Philadelphia 76ers forward Justin Edwards.

Having him back in the building, surrounded by students and staff, some of whom he remembers fondly and enjoyed reconnecting with, brought an incredible wave of joy, pride, and energy to the Smedley community. From his time as a student to the Philadelphia 76ers roster, his journey is a powerful reminder to our students that they can pursue their dreams. #WeAreMastery #PHLed by @masteryschools

Representation matters, especially when students are imagining what their futures can look like.
Juniors and Seniors from the Lenfest Future Educators Academy visited Grover Cleveland Elementary and Thomas Elementary classrooms for a hands-on experience that gave students in the cohort an opportunity to observe classrooms, support elementary instruction, and connect with veteran Mastery educators. Career-connected learning experiences like these open the door for students to get real-world job exposure while envisioning themselves as the educators of the future.

Special thanks to Grover Cleveland Elementary Principal Max Tartar, Lenfest Campus Assistant Principal of Postsecondary Programs Dana Martin, and Future Educators Academy Instructor Dominique Jenkins, who were instrumental in putting together this incredible opportunity for students. #WeAreMastery #PHLed

⭐Mastery 25 for 25 Spotlight⭐
As a student-athlete at Thomas Campus, Aliyah Schaffer balanced academic excellence, membership in the National Honor Society, and varsity women’s basketball. However, the daily dedication and purpose she saw in her teachers left a lasting impact and inspired her to make serving youth her life’s mission.

As a violence outreach therapist at Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia (@avpphila), Aliyah helps youth to grow, heal, and overcome the impacts of trauma. Exemplifying Mastery’s We Serve value, her advocacy builds confidence and conflict-resolution skills in youth, reassuring them of their agency in breaking destructive cycles. Aliyah’s commitment to community building is a reminder that to go far, we must go together. ⭐️ Mastery 25 for 25 Spotlight ⭐️
What began as a means of expression for @masteryshoemaker alum Dante Lemonte Booker, Jr., has evolved into a prolific career. As a cinematographer at Philadelphia production house @blackstudios.inc, he blends creativity and curiosity to spotlight dynamic stories through a cultural lens. Dante’s featured work with Under Armour, Philadelphia Youth Basketball, and Snipes is a reminder of the limitless potential of the Mastery student.

Dante credits the staff at Shoemaker Campus for encouraging his sense of imagination. Through weekly art classes and a curated sophomore internship in architecture, his love of the creative arts was fostered. For 15 years, the Mastery at Community College of Philadelphia (@ccpedu) program has offered students a unique dual enrollment experience, jumpstarting their college journey. During their senior year, students in the program take college courses that can transfer to a four-year college of their choice or serve as a foundation for the remainder of their two-year college journey. The partnership between Mastery and CCP also guides students and families through the college application process and helps them navigate the academic, social, and financial requirements.

On their first day of programming, the cohort attended a panel of our partner institutions, including @bucknellu, @dickinsoncollege, @fandmcollege, @gettysburgcollege, @lehighu, and @villanovau, who guided them in choosing a college major that fits their personal and professional goals. We are grateful for partners that help us break barriers to postsecondary success and empower students to pursue their dreams. #WeAreMastery #PHLed by @masteryschools
