I couldn’t let this day go by without mentioning this. Today marks one year of drum lessons, mentoring, and coaching by the dude on the computer screen here, @ryanvanpoederooyen
Not only is he helping me become a better drummer but also a better person! His positivity is infectious and his outlook on drumming and life are incredibly insightful. I am beyond grateful to be on this journey with Ryan as a guide.

If you’re looking for some new music, checkout the new EP by @audio.lounge
I had the honor of being asked to do a guest spot on their new song Crash Out at B King. Not as a drummer, that spot is held down by @connor_fuerst, but as guest vocalist doing some spoken word vocals. Connor recorded my vocals in the studio and I Improvised everything on the spot.
He asked me to use the worst British-like accent I possibly could. Mission accomplished there😂
I love what we ended up with. Be sure to listen all the way to the end and listen to the other great songs on the EP too. At maximum volume of course. While you’re at it, also check out their previous releases and give them a follow 🤘🏻😎🎶

This a case where I told Paul @metrodrums to go nuts. Surprise me. I trust him 100% so I knew there was no chance of me not liking what he came up with. And surprised I was!!
Here’s a 14x10, 10 ply shell made from Spotted Gum, Red Lacewood, Jarrah, Turpentine and Blackbean. Then he made 12 ply edges with alternating crabapple, and Jarrah and the icing on top here are the internal and external inlays!! Outrageous!
I’m actually shocked that I can still sit at the kit and play this monster but it works and it sure a super fat tone, especially with this head on it!

Another truly incredible snare drum from Shaun Peters @conundrumaustralia !
This is a 13x7 Stave Snakewood snare! This is not Amazonian snakewood. This wood comes from the deserts of Western Australia in the Pilbara area. From what I can find there are several species of trees referred to as Snakewood. It’s quite hard coming in around 17kN on the hardness scale. Shaun had the actual tree in his shed and he milled it himself. Scroll through for pics! This is definitely a one of a kind and it sounds unreal. Tons of bite💥
Checkout the natural vent holes and the grain. Super cool and I love it 🥰

And finally for today, another beast of a snare from my good friend Paul Warry @metrodrums
There’s a special magic to these drums that Paul makes. Every single one of them. Nothing sounds like a Metro.
It’s gotta be the Sprit of the Queensland bush along with Paul’s crazy skills💥
This is a 12x7 Grey Ironbark with a brass core! Yep. Brass is sandwiched in between the plies. This little guy is a CANNON! It’s heavy and man does it have a massive crack to it. You’d think it was an all-metal drum!
One my favorites from Paul. Thanks mate!

Another killer drum from Paolo @nfm_drums
This is the Gral series made from old milk cans that he cuts by hand. 3mm thick cast aluminum. The more scratched up and beat up these shells are, the better they sound!
I have a Yamaha Aluminum recording custom aluminum and this drum sounds better🔥

Next up from Paolo @nfm_drums is this breathtaking, free-floating STONE shell snare drum with all cast stainless steel hardware. This is NOT composite! The stone cone from quarry nearby to Paolo’s home and is called Porphyr.
The whole drum weighs about 21 kgs.
Attention to detail and finish is world class here. Look how he designed the clips to be recessed on the hoops so they are flush with the hoop surface🤯🔥 He thought of everything 😎
The sound is very musical, crisp, and bright! Very beautiful and unique.
It’s just insane and I’m honored to own one!

Highlight some drums today. First up is The Orchan from @oxidinstruments
If you’ve seen Sami’s build before, you know he’s a bit of a mad scientist. This drum is pretty crazy-all stave construction from maple with a bit of Wenge in there too. It looks like an asteroid both inside and out. It’s all hand-carved and painted and check out those lugs—hand drilled and tapped solid iron rebar.
We also have the custom snare effects you see here-all handmade as well. The brass jingles are cymbal cut-outs that mods that Sami does himself and then we have the laser cut wooden badge that Sami engraved with runes which say “Orchan”. The leather part is from one of his old Fire Department Gloves.
Super thick all around and sounds insane!
Sami is not only an awesome drum builder but a close friend. Check out his stuff😎🔥

About to get started digging into a new set of Mandala pads. I’m totally new to them. I have Battery 4 for my software.
Can someone recommend some good online tutorials for battery and using it these bad boys? I have 4 pads total.
Also, does anyone know if the sounds Danny Carey uses are custom or can you find them in Battery? If so, what are they?
I’ve seen vids of other drummers using the same exact sounds or at least something VERY close!

I am very overdue in posting drums pics of some killer drums that I’ve been Lucky enough to acquire. So, I’ll start with this one. A collaboration between Luca @zorzandrums and Sten @stengraffititattoo . Check out this 14x5.5 Mahogany with Luca’s solid brass hardware and custom art from Sten!
It tells the story of how drums can help break the chains of anxiety and depression! I’m speechless on this one. 🤯🔥🤘🏻
These are true masters of their crafts! The drum sounds as amazing as it looks too!
