1 month left before the Diagonale des Fous! 180km 10200m elevation 66 hours max 🇷🇪❤️ #trailrunningcommunity #smoking #grandraid by @mat_the_trail_runner_
Humidity is my enemy. Why a Holy Mary at the end of this bridge 😇 One of my best friend showing me the way. Stay focused, don’t sneeze, all will be OK Sentier scout Sentier scout with a freezing survivor in front (end of the 2nd night). 0° Celsius Welcome To the forest. And to the Mafate oven… 35° Celsius and massive elevation gain to come! With my new runner friend Ben, we’ve survived Mafate and the famous Maïdo exit. Happy guy, still a long road to go and one more night. But very happy already And tired… 1H50mins sleep in total (split in 3 naps) La redoute stadium soon!!! Here we are! Latest never ending descent. Always Manage Your entry and your exit! Rank 2107 / Finishers 2126 / Total runners 2766 I can’t believe my (3 pairs of) shoes made it 🚀💪🏻 Memories for life ❤️❤️❤️ by @mat_the_trail_runner_
No turning back. Even by car I thought it would be long. My longest ultra is 68km so … All good 😅 Maybe a data glitch! Starting SAS 4 and the last of the 2800 runners, close to the sweepers and to the ambulance. Safety first! Insane crowd, the best of the world! 🇷🇪❤️ 1st aid station. “Be water” Bruce Lee. I already overtook 700 runners as planned to avoid the bottleneck after Domaine de Vidot. The night was cold. Freezing cold. But the sunrise is magical. I can’t wait for the ray of light to warm me up. So many different landscapes already. The guy behind me is dying and me pretending all is ok. Highway to… The mud! No obstacles will block me. Under the mud, beach sand? M U D Don’t be scared, that one is small! Clouds and cliff meeting. by @mat_the_trail_runner_
A week ago already. A week ago exactly at 3:08pm local time on Sunday in Réunion Island, I crossed the finish line after my longest race ever, La Diagonale des Fous. One of the toughest trails in the world. The toughest and longest Diag ever made: 181km, 10200m elevation gain, 65 hours 08 mins. 52 mins before the final Cut off… large 🤪 8 months after discovering what the trail is. From 0 to the Diag as I started after having registered for this race. I don’t know why I did that. Maybe to prove that anyone can do it. Far from the winner but fast enough to be considered as one of the few madmen of this planet. People thought I was crazy and I said yes, that’s actually the name of the race so why not? I took it seriously, I trained hard, I asked advices to all the experienced runners, I studied the terrain, the nutrition, the race plan according to my very small experience, very conservative, survival mode. I get strong support from all my beloved ones, familly, friends and even more. That’s a solo sport where you need tones of people to support you, otherwise you definitely can’t make it. My brain is still processing what just happened. Unforgettable memories. I’ll share more soon. And the best is yet to come! ❤️🏃🏽 #grandraidreunion #ladiagonaledesfous #ultratrail #trailrunner #jaisurvecu by @mat_the_trail_runner_
La Diagonale des Fous 2026 🇷🇪 Experiencing the beauty of La Réunion and its people while supporting @mat_the_trail_runner_ is a memory I’ll keep forever. So beyond proud! C’est vraiment fou parce que it means running 180 km across the entire island over mountains, trails, and volcanoes with 10,200 m of elevation gain. Un grand bravo et félicitations à tous les finishers. How inspiring! Ti pa, ti pa, narivé 🫶🏼 by @mat_the_trail_runner_
Meeting at the Charity HQ with the volonteers and runners. Lots of smiles & good vibes! Thanks to all the donators ❤️ The hospitalised kids of the island need YOU. Link in my bio to support them 🫶🏻 #eclatdelîle #grandraid2026 #diagonaledesfous by @mat_the_trail_runner_

Diagonale D-6 ➡️ One of the top favorites, New Zealander Ruth Croft, has just spent four days scouting the course and seems to be questioning herself: “What on earth did I get myself into with this quagmire?” 📸 Martin GAFFURI/Ruth Croft 📝 Runraid #trail #diagonaledesfous #grandraid #GrandRaid by @mat_the_trail_runner_

Aurélien just broke the GR20 record in 27H29🔥🚀 My PR (across 5 GR20 completions) is 7 days 😂 He also won the Restonica 2026! (110km 7000m elevation in 14H40 mins) In that same race I DNFed at 60k 5000 elevation after 24H of effort… I still have room to improve 🤪😅 Btw, he won the Diagonale too in 2023 in 23H21 mins! by @mat_the_trail_runner_
