A region of raw beauty, breathtaking experiences, and local hospitality stretching from Puhoi to Te Hana - just a short drive from downtown Auckland.

Rise and shine, Tāwharanui 🌅

Golden light and lapping waves over the rocks at sunrise, then a long stretch of sand with barely a footprint on it. Worth setting the alarm for right?

Just a short drive from Matakana, Tāwharanui is New Zealand's first integrated open sanctuary. Stay on after sunrise for white-sand beaches, coastal walks and native birdlife behind the predator-proof fence. There are no shops in the park, so grab breakfast supplies in Matakana on your way through.

📸 Thanks to @franky_mcfee for sharing this one.

🍓 Berry good news: strawberry season has landed on the Matakana Coast.

@matakanaberryco's rows are full of ripe, red fruit right now and this week those berries are taking centre stage at @thefarmersdaughter_omaha in Point Wells. The chefs built a whole Harvest Dinner menu around them and it sold out so quickly they added an extra night!

Missed out? The last dinner of the season is on 25 and 26 November, with Eat Your Greens tomatoes on the plate. Seats go fast, so book early.

Book the November dinner via the link in our bio.

Ready to join one of Warkworth’s biggest days on the events calendar! Running since 1970, the @Kowhaifestival is back this Saturday, 17th October and will take over Warkworth Town Centre with 12 hours of music, food and local pride.

With more than 150 local vendors and an expected 10,000-plus visitors through Main Street, the 2026 celebration is set to be bigger than ever!

This year, the Kōwhai Festival is taking it right back to where it all began: the iconic sounds, style and spirit of Rock & Roll from 1969. So dust off your flares, leather jackets, tie-dye, mini skirts, peace signs, platform shoes and dress to impress for a shot at the Best Dressed Rock & Roll prize. Whether you’re channelling your inner rock star, hippie or dancing queen, bring the energy of 1969 to Main Street.

Wander the stalls for artisan goods and local makers, grab a bite from the food trucks and settle in for a full day of live music and entertainment. It’s a genuinely community-run affair, family-friendly from morning to night and one of the best ways to meet the people and businesses that make Warkworth part of what the Matakana Coast is all about.

Bring the family, bring your flares, and expect Main Street to be closed off and buzzing all day - It’s going to be groovy 🕺
