To our dear customers, a gentle request to please help us take care of Matcha Bar and respect the space.

Normally, we would simply let these things go, but lately it has been happening a little too often. Over the past few weeks, we’ve had items in our powder room damaged, including broken vases, a damaged faucet, a broken Pottery Barn side table, and our Le Labo hand lotion taken.

We’ve put a lot of thought, care, and resources into creating this space for everyone to enjoy. While your purchase covers the drinks and experience we serve, repairs and replacements from avoidable damage place an added burden on a small business.

We want to keep building thoughtful, beautiful spaces for everyone to enjoy, and that’s only possible when these spaces are treated with care.

We kindly ask that when you visit, you treat the space and everything in it with the same care and respect you would your own home. Thank you for helping us keep Matcha Bar a beautiful space for everyone. ✨ taken in Matcha Bar by @matchabarph

We get a lot of requests for cream-based matcha and cold-whisked matcha, and we completely understand why. They’re delicious.

Our preparation style, though, comes from a desire to be as respectful to traditional preparation as possible, even if the matcha latte itself is already a modern adaptation.

We’ve visited tea farms and tencha processing facilities ourselves and seen just how much work goes into making matcha. From the hands that plant and care for the tea bushes, to the careful harvesting of leaves, to the slow stone grinding that turns tencha into matcha. It is a deeply labour-intensive work.

This is our small way of honouring the people behind it.

We understand that this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s perfectly okay. Our hope is simply that, through this process, more people come to appreciate the nuances of matcha in a way that feels a little closer to how it has traditionally been enjoyed.

We are, afterall, a contemporary adaptation of an ancient ritual.

That said, we’re not closing our doors to more indulgent, dessert-leaning matcha expressions either. Perhaps in another branch, another concept, another day. 💚 by @matchabarph
