Memories from our summer travels.
Possibly my all time favorite color palette.
The art, the wallpaper, the sheer curtain… I love every bit of this little room.
I’m ready to go back.

I’ve been thinking a lot about craft lately… I think a lot of us are as we have conversations about how AI is shaping our present and future. I find as things become more digitized, more instant, my appreciation and desire for human creation deepens. Although sourcing textiles and objects that are made by expert artisans, craftspeople, and weavers has been the cornerstone of my business for almost ten years, it feels more important than ever.

Every single one of our throws is woven by hand using antique wooden looms from natural undyed linen or cotton. @caitlin_a_parker dyes each one using plant dyes which means no two are ever exactly the same.

Our baskets are woven in Ghana by weavers who are truly valued. We only source from those who value the health of the planet, and the dignity and equality of all people.

We source vintage rugs and textiles because they each have a unique story to tell. Using what already exists also helps keep things out of landfills… That old hemp kilim with holes in it doesn’t get thrown away. Instead it’s washed and turned into something new.

Even the things we choose to use to clean with reflect these values. Natural materials, excellent craftsmanship. (And they work better than their “modern” counterparts!) Many of our brushes are handmade by craftspeople with visual impairments. @irishantverk has been making brushes this way since the late 19th century. Yes, you read that right - for well over 100 years!

Traveling this summer was a reminder that humans have been creating since forever… I am definitely missing being surrounded by art and architecture that is hundreds (and thousands!) of years old. For now, it’s time to lean into living slower, cooking more, choosing handmade, and remembering we can create the environment in which we wish to live. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. I’d love to hear your thoughts on any and all of it… ♥️

Bea Husman (1915–2011) made art for the purest reason: because it brought her joy. A fashion designer who found her way to printmaking, papermaking, and collage, she spent decades quietly building a body of work shaped by world travel, remote cultures, and a restless creative curiosity. She studied papermaking in Kyoto alongside David Hockney. She pressed metal plates. She tore and layered and wove found objects into something entirely her own. She rarely showed her work publicly, which means what she left behind feels like a genuine discovery.

We are so grateful to @ggemdesign for sharing Bea’s art with us. We are honored to be given the opportunity to offer these special pieces from her personal collection for sale. Custom framing available. Visit us to see these beautiful works in person.

The pillow that started it all…

Ten years ago I was searching for the perfect floor cushion - big and comfortable, durable enough to handle life with energetic children. I didn’t want trendy. I wanted good, timeless design. Surprisingly, it was next to impossible to find. I found a good linen example, but wasn’t convinced it would stand up to young children. I bought a beautiful cushion made from a worn vintage wool kilim… I thought I had found something that checked all the boxes only to discover it was itchy!! Pretty. But uncomfortably itchy.

It was that itchy kilim cushion that inspired me to make my own. During my search I found vintage hemp, and realized it would make the perfect floor pillow. A twist of fate led me to find a partner across the globe who specialized in sourcing and revitalizing the old fabric using traditional, all natural methods. Kadir and I still work together today - I am forever grateful for him!! Our vintage hemp was woven in the 1960s, is one of a kind, and offers character and beauty that only handwoven fabric can. It’s soft but durable. It can be dyed or left natural. The design is timeless, and can be mixed into any genre of decor.

Over time our floor cushions have evolved, and we now offer cushions made from vintage fabric from the 1970s. This fabric is also handwoven, and rounds out our collection with fun patterns and color. Every cushion we make is unique - no two are exactly the same. We like it that way.

Swipe through a few photos to see current and past examples of our favorite cushions. If you’ve gotten this far, thanks for reading. 🤍

Carpets are art for your floor.

…And sometimes they work beautifully hung on a wall, draped on a bed or thrown on a bench or sofa.

Just like art, well cared for handwoven rugs appreciate in value over time. Machine made rugs from big box stores will always lose their value, and don’t tend to wear as well.

…just a couple of thoughts to ponder when considering your next rug purchase. taken in Whizin Market Square by @materiale.la
