MBE Who thought my 2009 “New Adventure” moving to London after completing my BA Hons, in hope of a job, with not a penny to my name, just a vast sneaker collection would have got me here. My dream was always to make an impact in life and eventually the competitive industry that is fashion, and I soon learned, like my time in Football, there was no one that really looked like me in these spaces. I’m Truly grateful to receive such recognition for over 16 years of trying to realise my unique vision, through relentless work and resilience. So proud of the amazing work @parvmatharu & I have done and got through. So much work that people have not seen or knew that was us! I’m grateful to do something I love and chase that obsessive pursuit for perfection. Thank you to all the incredible people and brands that we have worked with and have supported us along the way. My main ambition was to make my family, friends and now my daughters Mia & Saachi proud, and potentially inspire the next generation. FLAGSHIP 40 Savile Row, Mayfair, London. To begin summarising the last 9 years of running clothsurgeon would just be impossible, with so many incredible experiences, the journey has truly been a roller-coaster of emotions. I have never really stopped to enjoy any high, achievement or special project. It’s always been ok what’s next, how do I make that better. Constantly trying to perfect and push my product, brand and business forward simultaneously, continuously questioning is it good enough? what will all this hard work come to? all whilst riddled with stress, anxiety, and mentally fighting each day to be as great as I possibly can. With no hand outs and still independently owned every risk has been extremely calculated. All to make my family, friends and community proud of what I have achieved, and further aim to. Also to leave a positive impact for the next generation, and show south Asian parents, there is a career in the Arts. So this is the result of all that endeavour…. First Bespoke Streetwear store on Savile Row. First British South Asian Designer to have a store on Savile Row. Thank you all for the support and love shown for my work, every customer and heartfelt direct message is like a double espresso, fuel for the passion and work to continue. Whilst still on the pursuit of perfecting my craft, I have mastered the art of not giving up and truly believe that those who make it are the result of perseverance and good ol' hard graft. At the end of the day, I’m just a kid from a terraced back to back council house in Leeds, who now has a store on the most prestigious menswear street in the greatest city in the world. So…. THE BRITISH RAF. Punjabi culture celebrated by true craft and artistry of @rafsaperra He ruled the stage at Somerset House in front of such an eclectic crowd, from all ages and walks of life. As a British Punjabi, I was truly honoured and proud to play a part in such a historic moment. We created a bespoke bomber jacket, with a symbolic militant, ceremonial sensibility. #ReFramingFatherhood with @matharu_rav. “Sport and creativity is such an integral part of our formative years I feel,” says Rav, who has two daughters—Mia and Saachi. “So to introduce that to them at an early age is important to @parvmatharu and I. They show promise and interest, which is great as I want them to naturally take to things I put in front of them, in hope to nurture any talent and passion they show. Saachi does not like to lose and I LOVE that!” On what life is like going from having one child to two, he reflects: “It’s essentially double the work! Making sure you divide your attention and that both get the required love and care they need. Managing both personalities—which in our case are chalk and cheese—with the correct approach. On the plus side, we get more use out of the expensive shoes and clothes Mia wore!” 
‘ReFraming Fatherhood’ is my photography series spotlighting a new generation that are rewriting the script of what it means to be a Father today. Not only are they present and engaged in the lives of their children, they are learning (and unlearning) what it means to be there in an emotional, empathetic and loving capacity. Through their creative lens, they’re also enabling future generations to realise that nothing is out of reach, and pursuing a career doing what you love can be the best decision one can make—because the proof is in their parents. #fatherhood #clothsurgeon #savilerow #girldad taken in clothsurgeon by @matharu_rav
