One of the most rewarding parts of my job is figuring out ways to tell a better story through color.

Analyzing the emotional weight of any particular scene or shot is paramount to what I do.

What is the character feeling? And what should the audience be feeling?

These are the questions that endlessly give my craft new life, and it’s a joy to discover new ways to answer those questions over each new project.

Director of Photography Linus Sandgren created such a lush world in this film. He shot on mostly 35mm kodak vision 3 500T/5219. The skin tones, atmosphere, texture and foliage of the film are so rich.
This was a fun one to emulate.
One thing I’d like to note about these emulations that my goal is not to create a 1-1 replica of the shots from the film, but rather to try and recreate more broadly the DNA of the films look. The majority of this is being done by honing in on the right contrast curve— finding the right weight to the image.
From there I fine tune the palette and texture of the images, trying my best to avoid using tools like qualifiers and secondaries. If I can work more broadly, the looks I create can be replicated across a body of work more easily. by @mathews_seth

Gorgeous film— so many wonderful, off-putting, and potent looks created by cinematography Robbie Ryan and colorist Greg Fisher (along with the incredible costume and set design team).

Poor things was shot on film with Kodak Vision3 500T 5219, and some color reversal Ektachrome 100D 5294. by @mathews_seth
