Day 58: 35 degrees. Irish skin paying the price.
Turn off your phone. Go outside. Move.
Unfollow me and do it. Then I’ll know I’m successful.

Day 41: Hard things lower the threshold for everything else. That’s it. That’s the whole idea.

Discipline might be a noble pursuit. Maybe... I don’t think so. But when you do difficult things consistently, ordinary life stops feeling like a negotiation. The baseline shifts. What used to require effort becomes automatic.

Movement is the fastest lever I’ve found for this. Low moods, scattered thinking, that low-grade paralysis that keeps you pensive and inward, movement orients you toward action, pulls you out of your own head and into the world faster than anything else. Even though the research is clear, We don’t take it seriously because it doesn’t come in a pill.

Side quest: Guy runs after me as I’m pulling out. Just says nice bike. Genuine smile. Could’ve nodded and kept going. 25 minutes later we’d done a quick synopsis of each other’s lives, found common ground, gone our separate ways. Never got his name. Didn’t matter. It was the most present conversation I’ve had all month

41 days ago that conversation probably wouldn’t of happened like that. Because I was unavailable. Too much noise. Not enough presence.

That’s what hard work actually buys you. Not a better body. Not more discipline. Just presence. The ability to read a room, read a person, meet them where they are.

Happiness might be less about waiting for it and more about moving toward it. Anxiety, paralysis, low-grade dread, depression. They lose grip when you’re in motion.

You’ve got more in you than you think ❤️.

Day 38: from effort, to momentum.

In traffic you can’t see the finish. On the right road you stop counting the miles.

Attentional load is invisible but it’s expensive. Noise, fumes, stimulation, the nervous system is processing all of it. That cost shows up as effort. The distance feels longer.

Change the road and watch what happens.

Same legs. Same headwind. Three hours that cost nothing.

Design the environment. The rest follows.

Day 36: Running Connemara in the rain. Use the shit weather as novelty, don’t let it dictate your mood.

There’s something about being somewhere raw that makes the recovery feel proper. No hotel. No city. Just wide open space.

Behavioural activation is the the idea that movement precedes motivation not the other way around, sounds clinical until you’re lacing up in the rain and realising you already feel better before you’ve even started.

You don’t wait for the right conditions.
You go anyway.
The shit weather becomes the point.

Don’t outsource your mood to things you can’t control.
Run in the rain when you get the chance.

You’ve got more in you than you think ❤️.

Day 35: The places that made you don’t forget you.

There’s something that happens when you go back to where you came from. Nostalgia… maybe. A sort of recalibration. A reminder of the ground you’re standing on and the people who helped you stand.

Identity forms with the people who guided and supported you. In the streets you grew up in, and came back stronger for it.

Some of the strongest men I know were built patient, Under pressure with someone supportive in their corner modelling what “good” looked like.

Those legacies don’t die. It travels through the people it touched.

Tough times have a way of pulling people back together. Across cities, across countries, across years of distance. And when they do, you remember what actually matters.

Go back to your roots when you can. Just to remember what you’re made of.

Thank you folks. Thank you home 🇮🇪 taken in Dublin, Ireland by @mathieux_

Day 33: Practising showing up.

No sleep. New city (again).

This is what habit building actually looks like. Not the perfect session. Not the optimal conditions. Just not breaking the chain.

Research on habit formation is clear, consistency beats intensity every time. The brain doesn’t build automatic behaviour from perfect days. It builds it from repeated ones. Good enough, done regularly, beats excellent done occasionally.

The days you don’t feel like it are the ones that matter most. Not because suffering is noble. Because that’s when the identity gets cemented.

Every time you show up when you don’t want to, you’re casting a vote for the person you’re becoming.

The session doesn’t have to be good. It just has to happen.

Day 32: Using Instagram as a free workout journal with social pressure baked in.

Turns out knowing people might be watching makes you show up. Not revolutionary science, just how we work.

The irony is I spend a lot of time telling people to put their phones down and reclaim their attention.

So naturally I’ve decided the goal is 0 followers.

Posting increasingly boring workouts with behaviour change advice until everyone leaves. Consider it a public service.

Fair warning: it’s going to get a lot more boring before it gets interesting.

Stick around. Or don’t. Either way I’ll post some informative stuff.

Day 30: Organising your environment to escape escapism.

Most people don’t lose themselves all at once.
It happens slowly.
Wrong environment. Wrong season. Wrong habits.
Until the person looking back at you has lost their edge.

The environment shapes you whether you’re paying attention or not.

Chaos chosen is fuel. Chaos imposed is poison.

It’s not stimulation that damages you, it’s prolonged uncontrollable stress. The kind you can’t regulate or escape from. That’s what drives the avoidance cycle. Scrolling. Partying. Constant stimulation. Not character flaws, coping mechanisms.

And the dopamine thing people get wrong:
It doesn’t make you feel good. It makes you want.
The more you chase pleasure, the less pleasure it delivers.

That’s the trap. Not the substance.

Chronic stress takes your prefrontal cortex offline.
Judgement. Creativity. Decision making. Gone.
You’re not weak. Your hardware is overloaded.

The fix isn’t to eliminate intensity.
It’s to build enough structure that you choose your chaos.
Sleep. Train. Create routine.
Then perform at your best inside it.

Sit with the discomfort you’ve been running from.
The things you avoid grow. The things you face shrink.
You don’t become numb. You become available.

Most people are one honest reset away from a completely different direction.
Lower the noise enough to think.
That’s where it starts.

You’ve got more in you than you think. I got you ❤️
