Six years ago, if you’d told me I’d be creating personalised punch needle keepsakes for families around the world, I probably wouldn’t have believed you.

mati & bee started with macramé rainbows, wooden decor and lots of experimenting. Then one Pinterest scroll introduced me to punch needle embroidery… and EVERYTHING changed.

What began as curiosity slowly became the heart m&b, leading me to create the storybook-inspired keepsakes I make today.

A few little geese, lots of wool, and one very special name… 🪿🎀

I’m turning these fluffy little characters into a personalised garland for Ada, stitching each goose by hand and adding all those little details that make handmade pieces so special.

I think there’s something lovely about creating something that belongs just to one little person. Something a little whimsical, a little nostalgic, and made to feel right at home in a storybook nursery. 💖✨🪿

It usually starts with a little message… “Could you make…?” 🤍🪿

And then we dream up the colours, choose the little details and spend hours turning that idea into something real.

This autumnal goose is one of those pieces that reminds me why I love what I do. The warm colours, the tiny details and that little storybook feeling… I just love how it all comes together. 🍂

Because sometimes, the sweetest things aren’t found on a shelf. They’re made especially for someone, with a little thought, a lot of yarn and so much love.

And one day, they’ll be part of the memories made in that little room. 🥹

“Wait… what is that supposed to do?!” 😂

I’ve had so many DMs asking about this little step since I shared my last video of brushing a few finished hoops, so let me explain!

After all those hours of punch needling, this is my final little tidy-up. I brush away the loose fluff and fibres left on the surface, helping the design look neat and ready for its new home. 💖

It might look like such a tiny thing, but it’s these little finishing touches that make a difference. And after spending hours creating something by hand, you can bet I want it looking its very best before I send it off to a little one’s bedroom. ✨

A tiny hot air balloon… but so many little details go into making it just right 🎈🩵

And this is only a tiny part of the process!

Before I even get to these finishing touches, there’s transferring the design onto the fabric, hours of punch needling, trimming and securing all the yarn on the back, adding the backing… and then photographing it, creating content, packing it up and taking it to the post office.

And somewhere in between? Unpicking bits that aren’t quite right and doing them all over again. 🫣

It’s so much more than just making something cute. It’s all the little details, the time, and the love that go into creating a keepsake made especially for one little person. ✨

Now you know why these little hoops take hours to make!

For the little girl whose nursery deserves something made just for her. 🪿💖✨

Sarah loved my original goose and strawberry bunting, but wanted something a little different for her daughter. So we added her name, two little geese facing inwards, and the sweetest Jemima fabric on the backs of the flags.

And this is actually Sarah’s seventh order from me, which honestly means so much. 🥹 The fact that she keeps coming back with new ideas and trusts me to bring them to life is one of my favourite parts of doing what I do.

I love that with handmade pieces, we can take an idea and make all those little details personal to the child it’s made for.

Someone on the school run told me I should stop making children’s decor because it isn’t worth it.

I’ve thought about that comment more than I’d like to admit.

Of course, handmade takes time. There are hours of stitching, tiny details, late nights and plenty of things people never see behind a finished piece.

But I started this journey, because I love creating little storybook pieces for children’s rooms. I love imagining them hanging above a cot, beside a little bookshelf, or becoming part of a room a child grows up in.

And when a mum trusts me to make something special for her little one, it reminds me why I started.

I’m not saying this journey is easy, or that passion pays every bill. But I don’t think everything we love has to be measured by someone else’s idea of what’s worthwhile.

So, for now, I’ll keep stitching. 🪡💖

To the mums building something of their own alongside everything else — I see you.

I honestly never expected this one to become such a favourite. 🥹🌸

I first made my little meadow hoop in August last year, and somehow it’s gone from a new design I was excited to try… to the piece I’m asked about again and again.

It’s especially lovely paired with my little goose with her mesh collar — they’ve become such a sweet little duo. 🪿🌸

I think I understand why people love them. They feel a little bit like stepping into a storybook… soft florals, tiny details and something made especially for one little room.

And the best part? No two are ever quite the same. ✨

Because I refuse to believe boys’ rooms have to be all beige, cars and dinosaurs in primary colours. 😂

I love making little pieces for boys that still feel whimsical, nostalgic and a bit storybook — hot air balloons, vintage-style dinosaurs, little adventures and plenty of colour.

Basically… the kind of room you want to stop and look at. 🤍
