Alkaid's Cyclamens: I.
‎
‎
I had promised to write of the story behind this painting, but I find myself unable to do so. The words seem to have failed me, in the very manner of which Althalos' memory had done to him. It's ironic, perhaps, but I find it fitting.

However, the one word that does not escape me when I attempt to describe this piece, is loss. Loss is what had shaped Althalos, and had paved the path he treads. So young, sweet, and full of a wonder torn from his grasp, he had witnessed the beheading of his eldest brother. The circumstances surrounding the event, and the cause and reason, are details I've omitted from this piece. It is less so about the moment itself, but rather the memory of it. As time passed, Althalos, in his adulthood, could not let go of the past. To sleep was to relive it, though his memory had betrayed him, and he could no longer recall his brother's face.

His mind, ever so cruel, replaced the image of the eldest, with that of Althalos' own reflection; Younger than the present, and older than the past. And such, the imagery of it haunts him, to have witnessed the death of an elezen so young, and that of the person he could have become.

Althalos wip :)

I do not usually post wips, but dearest jess inspired me to do so, and I figured it'd be interesting to have them be accessible somewhere.

Althalos is a character I made quite early on when I first attempted to play FFXIV. I was only sixteen! Although, I had been meaning to try it ever since ARR's early release on the PS3. Funnily enough, I still have the disc. And yet I couldn't stand the game, and abandoned it merely a day after attempting to try it. Even so, Haurchefant's design had inspired me to create Althalos. It's lovely to see how far Althalos' story progressed, and the subtle unintentional coincidences of his backstory to XIV. All thanks to Leyn for always being willing to hear about him and being a great inspiration, as well as convincing me to give this game a chance :)

Some of the story behind this will be revealed once the painting has been completed!

who up haurching their fant (swipe for the original version —>)

I was bored and wished to see if there had been any improvement in my art since last year, so I thought I'd repaint this sketch! I had only been playing FFXIV for a month at the time.

Although I began working on the sketch for the repaint about a month ago or so, it was still fun to pick it up again. Fun sketch, however imperfect it may be;&#);>

I am not the greatest at captions... and I have not made a complete illustration in so long (two weeks, lol).

but here is my oc! we both like motherboards... unless they're dropped. then that's not good. not good at all.
