The role of the artist is to reflect the world they live in: its joys, its horrors, its contradictions, and the people who shape it. My work is grounded in listening, learning, and collaborating with the voices that define the stories I’m drawn to tell. Storytelling matters because it carries emotional truths from one generation to the next. In a time when so many realities are dismissed or denied, I believe in creating work that refuses to look away. Shattering Thrones holds my heart in both its text and its imagery, and I’m grateful to the communities and conversations that have shaped it. I hope you’ll follow along as we continue building this world together. by @matt.grimes

I'm absolutely delighted to present a 3-minute cut from the short film I did in Chicago a few months ago called "Shattering Thrones."

Matt Grimes, the writer and star of the piece created an entire language for the book and the film for which this is the proof of concept. Directed by Ricardo Bouyett.

See the full 9-minute film at: https://youtu.be/TItmnzKTpms

You initially didn’t want kids. For the gift of life, I’m grateful. For everything you taught me, I’m grateful. For you, I’m grateful. I love you. Rest in peace, Dad. 🤍 by @matt.grimes

⭐️Lol so I’m realizing that this album has been FUELED and RAN by the bisexuals and gay queens in my life…and then my straight married guy friends who get repeatedly recruited into shredding over songs they can’t relate to whatsoever bc it’s just me singing about girlie friendship breakups and the occult and being single 🙂‍↔️🤘⭐️

Full mixing day today with @emmabutterworthmusic , album release show costume-fabric shopping yesterday (hire @venusian.lil to make the sparkly performance dress of your dreams and @koshie_mills to choreograph)…. And ALBUM COVER SHOOT TOMORROW 😍 with @molliemenuck.jpeg and @adelynmccarthy 💅✨✨✨

Ok that’s the life update byeeeee I’m so excited to share this with you end of May 🫶🫶🫶 by @matt.grimes

Wow. What an unforgettable year. In 2025, I moved into my own one-bedroom apartment, I saw a bunch of my favorite artists live, I tried things I’ve been dying to do for years, I brought my creative visions to new heights. I’m feeling grateful that I spent the year surrounded by so much love. I’m feeling proud about how 2025 is concluding, and I’m feeling both hopeful and excited about what 2026 may hold. Thank you to the beautiful people, places, and things that made this year so special 💖 and I’m sorry if I couldn’t tag you it only let me tag 20 ahhh by @matt.grimes

I TURN 28 AND RELEASE A SPACE ROCK SONG ON FRIDAY YAY! PRE SAVE LINK IN BIO! Swipe if you wanna see some BTS and old pics capturing the month I wrote the song back in early 2020 (Idk her and her blonde sad ass, but we love her nonetheless).
⭐️
ALSO! Anyone who knows me well knows that black cats are my perpetual good luck sighting, and Miss Ma’am at Chicago Costume guided me right to this fit in their basement. What a queen. Check them out please—they have some amazing vintage stuff downstairs. 💕 by @matt.grimes

A peek into the written world of SHATTERING THRONES.

The aftermath of a raid.
A not-so-welcoming introduction.
A dish served many ways.
A game of precision.
The contamination of a culture.

And for today only… an extra scene available on my story - unlikely allies in forced proximity. by @matt.grimes
