JMU Dance Alum Spotlight: Matt Haskett (’22)

In just two weeks Matt will be joining us on campus as a part of Catapult: Magic Shadows, performing November 10th at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts!

Originally from Northern Virginia, Matt Haskett grew up in competition dance studios where he trained in a variety of styles including ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop. He continued his education in dance at James Madison University where Matt began his choreographic journey while also being a member of the Virginia Repertory Dance Company as well as Mozaic Dance Team. Following his time at JMU, Matt moved to Chicago where he was lucky enough to find Venetia Stifler and Concert Dance Inc. After two incredible seasons with CDI, Matt now tours internationally with Catapult Entertainment presenting shadow-based storytelling. In between tours, Matt has started his own dance company, Scription Dance Theatre, which is currently in its first season. This company allows Matt to commit to his choreographic craft and creates opportunities for working movement artists in Chicago. He has presented work at a multitude of festivals including Simanitkos’ Chore-Kickoff, the Rooted Space Choreography Showcase, as well as Dance City Festival Chicago and NYC.

✨Come see Catapult: Magic Shadows on November 10th at the Forbes Center for Performing Arts!
This shadow-illusion dance company made a splash on America’s Got Talent, and they’re even more jaw-dropping in person. With nothing but light, shadow and extraordinary physicality, Catapult’s dancers transform their bodies to tell stories and stretch the imagination.

Big thank you to @alexthebell and @sydneyosborne_ for helping me film / organize this project! I couldn’t have done it without you both at my side!

My heart goes out to the most incredibly kind and talented cast a dance-filmmaker could ask for. Thank you for pushing through into the late hours of the night. I love you all :)
