It was wonderful to design, direct and open the fourth show of @eastlynnetheater 46th MainStage season - War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast by Joe Landry this past Thursday.
It’s the most advanced show that ELTC has ever put forward.
At the Clemans Theater for the Arts, everything we do has never been done before and this is no exception.
It is the result of a true artistic collaboration that occurs in just three weeks. I’m blessed to have a fabulous team both onstage and off.
This is a classic radio play that breaks through the airwaves to bring a visual identity to the classic Orson Welles broadcast of War of the Worlds.
If you know what that [in]famous broadcast sounds like, then perhaps you’ve wondered what it might look like.
You can discover that Wed-Sun thru November 1 at the Clemans Theater for the Arts where you become a member of the live studio audience from the moment you walk through the door. taken in East Lynne Theater Company by @matt.mancuso1

Stephanie and I just saw the preview of @eastlynnetheater's production of War Of The Worlds: The Panic Broadcast. We came for two reasons; the primary one being that our friend @hiitsmeandrewbetz is in it. The secondary one is that The War Of The Worlds is one of the main reasons I've spent more than 30 years working in radio.

When I was a kid in the late '70s or early '80s, there was a radio station in one of the places I lived that played old-time radio shows late at night. I heard The War Of The Worlds and it changed everything for me. I had never realized that radio could make me imagine things like that, or make me feel that way.

I asked my parents to buy me a copy on cassette, which they did. That was the beginning of my old-time radio collection. In the years since I've listened to the 1938 broadcast recording hundreds of times. It was such an absolute joy to see it performed a few feet in front of me tonight.

It's a very talented cast and they're called upon to play many parts, including one of the most instantly recognizable radio, film, and television voices of the 20th century, Orson Welles. Some of the key roles were gender swapped in a delightful way. The staging was also very creative. (Please note that the photo I've taken does not do it justice at all. I took this photo when the lights were up before we sat down.)

If you're anywhere near Cape May, New Jersey, or you want to make the trip, you won't be disappointed. Kudos to every involved. 👽📻🎙️💚

Hard to put into words what the past five weeks have meant. Never thought I would ever do RENT but it has been such a rewarding and challenging experience. Each one of these people is a gem and an incredible artist. I’ve enjoyed watching and listening to them week after week, show after show and learning from them. Thank you to this brilliant, to @musictheatreofct and the equally brilliant @mcnriff for a once in a lifetime experience.

It was so much fun to perform in a reading of And Then There Was None by Agatha Christie! The cast and crew was great and was finally in a murder mystery. Ha!
