On Firday I rode 8 miles around town with a stop at Sacred Bean. Then on Saturday I went out with my friend and rode 27 miles round trip out to the North Marina. #pueblo150 @activepueblo2008 by @matt13942020

A little more riding bikes today...Pueblo West has made leaps and bounds with cycling paths. We sampled some this evening, including the work on the new pedestrian/bike bridge over the railroad tracks on S. Nichols Road. Eventually the railroad will move their power lines. by @matt13942020

Just to wrap up the @palmerlandco Bike the Bessemer ride was a delicious farm to table lunch (and a devine peach cobbler) by the crew from @diavolopueblo. And it was great to catch up with some old friends. Even if you don't ride fast, make sure you don't miss this event next year! taken in St Joseph Church by @matt13942020

Thanks to the @palmerlandco for hosting a fun, informative and awesome ride out to the lanes this morning. The old friends I saw and the new friends I met made the ride so enjoyable. taken in Pueblo, Colorado by @matt13942020

Last night I thought there was the next to last dot in town. Marc Senecaux was in town, apparently off the route for a bit, on one side of town, then on another. I called up Louis, my local dot watcher buddy and we went out looking for him. We tracked him down at a bar, just off the route at about 10pm. Oddy, there were 2 bikes out front, not the one we expected. When I went inside, I found Marc...and Nicolas Sanchez. Trackleaders seemed to indicate that Nicolas was in Canon City (about 3 and a half to 4 hours away). Nicolas wasn't being lazy, his tracker was misbehaving. I shared a beer with these guys – The Shared Lanterne Rouge of TABR2023. They were having a good ride. Marc is a bit of a veteran, but Nicolas told me this was his first long distance bike event, and as a matter of fact had only recently (Feb or March?) bought a bicycle. I'm not sure he realized what his buddy talked him into....LOL

During the ride so far, they had been periodically catching up to Renihold and Brigit and then letting them get away. I asked Marc when they planned on rolling out in the morning and he said, in that strong French accent, "Who knows? When the body wants to ride, then we ride. In France, I'm watching the clock but now we're on holiday and we'll wake when the body wants to wake." That, in my opinion, is a wonderful approach. The body knows that the destination will still be there when they get there.

Have a great ride, gentlemen! The Monument patiently awaits your safe arrival! by @matt13942020

On Sunday afternoon, Deann and I caught up with Brigit Zimmermann at Pueblo City Park. We had to warn her not to ride the wrong way down the one way street through the park (Nathan's route sends the racers the wrong way through Pueblo City Park). We chatted by the side of the road, sharing TABR stories and helping Brigit plan what's next. As I've mentioned, Pueblo is a spot where if you arrive in the afternoon/evening, there aren't many stopping places east and decent TABR lodging isn't readily available. We offered, and Brigit accepted, a bed and a shower. When we made it to the house and got settled we chatted a bit more. Brigit is a DHL driver in Germany. She got into cycling late in life when she did a one hour running fitness challenge with her daughter. Once the challenge was over she went running on her own. She got bored of just running around the village so she got a bike. One race and then another (she rode the Paris-Brest race) and here she is now, 2000 miles into the TABR2023.
She said she had been riding with Reinhold Mueller and they had shared accomodations. Apparently she wakes up and gets out early while Reinhold sleeps in a bit. He eventually catches up with her. So a few hours later Reinhold showed up. He had taken a break in Canon City, swimming at the city pool to cool off, which delayed him a bit.
Reinhold is an interesting guy. He's ridden the Tour Divide...twice. He said, kinda tongue-in-cheek, his reason for doing TABR was too lose weight. It wasn't apparent that he needed to and I sensed his ultramarathon racer was showing, just a little bit. I asked him what he likes about distance riding, he said it clears your mind, "You only have to worry about 3 things; where you get water, where to eat and where you will sleep. In that moment, nothing else matters."
We sent them off in the morning, Brigit at 6:30AM and Reinhold at 9:30AM (right on time for them). Reinhold ran some errands around town, the post office and Great Divide. They were headed for Lamar, taking the so-called southern route, following US50.

Go Brigit!!
Go Reinhold!!
We look forward to seeing your dots in Virginia. by @matt13942020

I was at @solarroast in on Main in Pueblo on Friday morning, having a coffee with Stefano Perrigrini, @adventure_survival_extreme He spent the night in Pueblo while waiting for his bike to be repaired. As we were hanging out, who arrives but The Brothers Barcroft. Chris Barcroft and his brother Michael Barcroft came riding up. We waved them down and they mentioned they were on the way to Great Divide to have some maintenance done on their bikes (chains, tires...). They came back after they dropped off their bikes and I had some brunch with them. They seemed to be having a good ride after sorting out their mechanical issues in Oregon. Chris told me that some guy had given them both sun shirts to cycle in (he's modeling his below, from @u.shood). They were light weight and have a 50spf rating. We talked about routes and where they were headed next, They said they were going to ride the so-called southern route, taking U.S. 50 into Kansas instead of CO-96. They didn't enjoy the ride into Colorado down through Walden. Apparently the shoulder is narrow and the potholes are many (I'm calling the Governor). They were looking forward to the nicer shoulder on U.S. 50. I can't blame them. Right as we finished breakfast, they both got texts that their bikes were ready and they headed out.

p.s. I know they scratched, which is unfortunate, but I figured I'd share the story anyway. And the Ushood is a cool product. by @matt13942020

I found Stefano Pellegrini on the TransAm Trail over by Walgreens. He got caught out in the major thunderstorms we had last night and was worried about going much further east. Frankly, I don't blame him. The storms we had the last 2 days were very intense. He also has some broken spokes and was headed to Great Divide for some service and to find a restaurant. Safe cycling and happy trails my friend!! by @matt13942020
