Ohio floods ruined houses and brought mud and mold to low-income communities.

I have wanted to experience Helping Hands for years, and I can't imagine a better name for the organization. Rough hands. Tiny hands. Old hands. Young hands. Hundreds of hands helping out however possible, from clearing rubble to hanging drywall. I watched hundreds of yellow shirts stream out across a community like an anthill, leaving clean yards and smiling faces in their wake. What a powerful reminder of how much good you can do in just a few short hours. by @matt52weeks

To help Crooksville, Ohio recover from devastating floodwaters, over 350 volunteers traded their usual Saturday Session of Stake Conference to help their neighbors. Volunteers young and old spent their Saturday cleaning up debris, drywalling flood-damaged homes, and bringing their own trailers to haul trash away.

Ohio Summer on Film.

Closing out a year spent pursuing my PhD. This town has been good to us. Every day is spent trying to wear Ammon out. Every day ends with Ammon’s energy outlasting mom and dad’s.

I’m enjoying developing these shots out of my tiny grad student office. Everything on Kodak UM & Tri-X 400. by @matt52weeks

I’ve been hand developing 35mm film out of my tiny grad student office this year.

This year, for the second year in a row, I chose to share my photographs on my personal website rather than to Instagram.

If you want to see my art from this year — follow the link in bio to a curated collection of photographs.

Quiet moments raising a son, seeing the affects of age, and observing a new place of residence.

I made a short guide on how to take better photos of your kids.

10 years of experience distilled down to answer 3 questions:

1: Where do you stand?
2: When do you click the shutter?
3: How do you get the little suckers to sit still?

In 2020 I accidentally formatted my wedding footage. Get your SD cards organized because it is NOT worth that pain.

There's a link in bio to download a homespun solution I would hand out to employees, and a nicer aluminum organizer if you want something prettier. by @matt52weeks

3 things that have surprised me working for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

-- It has surprised me how both employees and leaders have the same vision of Church issues that that members have. They are in here wrestling with all the tough questions. Not only that, but the people working on solving said issues are SHARP. Change at the church is like steering an aircraft carrier, and there are a lot of people lining things up behind the scenes for years before any changes take place. (All things in order.)

-- I have been surprised with how God has instigated growth for me. Each problem I have to solve here is global and multidimensional rather than just "improving shareholder value" like normal corporate America. The result is an uptick in spirituality, high-level thinking, and empathy for different cultures.

-- Looking from the outside I saw a lot of suits, but most of my bosses and coworkers are women. They shape everything that goes on and I am constantly impressed with their work. taken in Salt Lake City, Utah by @matt52weeks

Instead of posting to IG this year --> I slowly compiled all my favorite photos from the year on my website. If you want to see a hyper-curated look at my photography from 2024, check out the link in bio.

Most of the work this year was shot on the Sigma FP-L and either a contax 45 f2 or Canon FD 28 f2.8. by @matt52weeks
