Georgian House renovation
Other stuff too
Quite a lot of orange.

It was a village called Norham, in case you’re wondering. And yes it was beautiful. We renovated that house too, some people have questioned the wisdom of this move - sometimes those people are me. #renovation #Northumberland #newlifestyle by @mattandfranny
I’m having to take a break from working for a bit due to injury and I’m using this time productively by looking through pictures of our last bathroom and reminding myself we can get there. by @mattandfranny
Living Room. To the left of the fireplace is a ‘Scotch Press’, or an ‘Edinburgh Press’ depending on who you talk to. They are particularly useful shallow cupboards built into the alcoves of Georgian houses in the north of England and Scotland. Mine are filled to the brim with paperwork, board games random plugs and wires and all those important things that you need to shove somewhere so that you can give the impression of being a decent and organised person who doesn’t live in total chaos. #georgianhouse #renovationproject #listedbuilding #hagueblue #livingroomdecor #livecolorfully #hiddenchaos #fireplacedecor #periodliving #periodstyle @douglasgibbphotography for @period_living magazine by @mattandfranny
It serves me right, I guess. Trying to make my life easier like an absolute loon. #wishful #renovation #easylife #lifehack by @mattandfranny
Here’s some stuff we’ve done. This is sort of an Ikea hack in that I used Nordli drawers and Lonset slatted base to form the basis of this cabin bed. But ultimately we have turned this small single room into a decent sized room for a large teenager (that’s a double bed we’ve got there!) with lots of storage space and also it’s a social space too! (They like to lie down and watch the projector on the ceiling behind the curtains). Study space and still with adequate floor space too! I’m quite pleased that this has turned into such a functional but warm space. What do you think? #renovation #selfbuild #transformation #interiordesign by @mattandfranny
Here’s how we made the smallest bedroom in the house work for us. It has drawers under the bed and a small wardrobe built in, shelves with power sockets at the end of the bed and even hidden storage underneath. There enough space left for a good sized desk and chair. And for all that it feels quite zen and spacious. A place for everything and still a bit of floor space to do weights or whatever they’ve got planned. It’s not finished (as per usual) so I still need to put in an architrave and window cill, put in a bit of art work and hang that door, but still it’s no longer feeling like a messy jail cell. #renovation #ikeahack #teenroom #diyprojects by @mattandfranny
I love a good unnecessary detail - in my opinion that’s what gives the home its personality. They might be unnecessary but they’re all well built by hand and in keeping with a property of this age. Where the design is not exactly an Edwardian addition (such as the attic conversion) I used materials that the edwardians would have used - these gloss brick slips are the same that you’d find in Arts and Crafts (Craftsman) properties and feature in all the underground stations plus thousands of pub fronts and all sorts of buildings from that era - so I think it’s within the same ethos even if not a traditional style. These details cost me more in money and blood sweat and tears, but they’re remain my favourite details in the house. #renovationproject #diy #bespoke #designideas #edwardian by @mattandfranny
I’m going to get back on it, honestly, soon. But also the Christmas season has been a reminder to take a few more breathers, get out more and stop being a loser because constant stress means that my work load has been 90% procrastination regardless. I’ve got a ton of footage and work I haven’t even uploaded yet, so Instagram is starting to feel like yet another job, and a swathe of ‘unfollows’ has made me question whether it should be a priority right now. Let me know your thoughts!! Oh, and. Happy New Year! #renovation #interiordesign #myhousebeautiful #selfacceptance by @mattandfranny
Some good news for the new year. Really looking forward to finding out what prescription/quick fix they’re gonna suggest for this chronic condition known as ‘me’. Anyhow, back to the house. #selfimprovement #diy #interiordesign #renovation by @mattandfranny
On top of trying to get our house ready for Christmas (we failed) we are also trying to get our gingerbread house ready. This isn’t really an extra job because it’s a tradition I love. Any guesses what we are making this year? #gingerbread #family #tradition #renovation by @mattandfranny
This will be transformative honestly. The whole back section of the house is all built out of solid wood and glass and ‘will’ be beautiful when it’s done. I’m very much into wooden structures and am inspired by the Japanese style of working - luckily I’ve been able to get Matt on board as it gives him an opportunity to@flex his carpentry muscles. But this is far slower than just buying doors and getting them fitted, so they’ve been made on the few non rainy days and sometimes in the rain. Fingers crossed they don’t get entirely warped before they’re fully fitted! #transformation #selfbuild #interiordesign #extension by @mattandfranny
