150 years in the making. ✨

Over the past year, local artist Matt Wills has brought the Palace’s story to life through 12 bespoke illustrations - from our historic entrance to the Garden Court, from hidden details to our iconic rooftop sign. Each piece captured a chapter of our legacy, blending art and history in celebration of this remarkable milestone.

Yesterday we sketched at #sydneygwaltonsquare and was fun to return to a park where I ate my lunch when I interned in the area back in 1997. I think I may have missed a few bricks in the old archway!

How does one summarize an amazing three week trip to #vietnam in a three minutes video? Capture each stop with just some highlights.

For those wondering, here’s a full breakdown of the itinerary….

Day 1-2: Hanoi
- Hoa Lo prison
- Thang Long Water Puppet Show

Day 3-5: Halong bay cruise on Valor of the Seas
- kayaking
- Cat Ba island
- oyster farm
Day 6: back to Hanoi
Day 7: overnight train from Hanoi to Danang
- Lotus Train cabin
Day 7-11: Danang
- Hoi An
- Marble Mountain
- Ba Na Hills (golden bridge)
Day 12: fly from Danang to Nha Trang
Day 12-16: Nha Trang
Day 16: fly from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh
- snorkeling excursion

Day 17-20: Ho Chi Minh

Part 2 of @sunsetsketchers at @stannesofthesunset. Beautiful day for sketching with a great turnout, this church, turning 100 in 2031, was my mom’s parish and grammar school when she grew up in the neighborhood. The priest came out and told us some of the history and even took a group photo. The grammar school is still a double school and doing well too. Thanks for @sketchy_stephy for organizing.
Also it’s been great having @art.via.nishtha visiting this summer and introducing her to the world or urban sketching and happy to see she’s bringing it back to Dallas, Texas!

I took so much of the process of this one that I’m breaking into two posts. The first is the process I went through to create this sketch of St Anne’s of the Sunset church on Judah with the @sf_sketchers.

This was different for me and I didn’t use ink but a 6B soft dark pencil and watercolors only.

What do you think? Do you like it better with ink or leave it in pencil? Let me know on comments.

Saw this woman on the street in Hanoi and I ok w quick reference photo and knew she was someone I wanted to try watercoloring. This was a quick 30 minute exercise and enjoyed the challenge.

I was so fortunate to capture a lot of my trip to #việtnam in my #sjetchbook. Made so many new friends sketching along the way. I still want to rework some of them and finish others but it’s an amazing way to see a country and attempt to capture sights.
