Huge doses of vulnerability here.
Today’s news is heartbreaking, and it stirred up some old stuff in me.
Caution ⚠️ Trigger alert.

Childlike Wonder

At age 4 I explored with childlike wonder,
With curious splendor and joy.
Freedom—untouched, unfiltered, untamed,
At age 4 trusting all in my story.
And when the day came that the truth would rupture,
At age 4 my innocence shifted.
Obedience and respect for my elders,
At age 4 I became gifted.
My internal monitor, my intuition;
At age 4 unexpected vigilance.
A likeness to a protector in waiting,
At age 4 my predator’s virulence.
I learned that trust in others—a misgiving;
At age 4 my voice became essential.
I sensed in them what is tightly concealed,
At age 4 I felt storms—torrential.
Where ‘no’ was forbidden,
‘Disrespect’ is what they said,
At age 4 the word sharpened,
Deafening in my head.
Thunderous and loud,
My foot stomping defiance,
At age 4 I discovered,
There is danger in compliance.
At age 4 a new language presented,
My words not intended to please.
All ages my words shall not be in question,
When touch makes my body freeze,
Early violation presented a gift,
Resilience, strength, unwavering love,
For a 4-year-old girl abandoned,
She found strength from heaven above.#yall_hegetstheglory #breakingcycles #psychologyandfaith by @mattersofmind26
