July is Disability Pride Month. And long before disability rights laws started changing the world, there was Camp Jened.

A summer camp where young people with disabilities could experience something many had never felt before: belonging.

The friendships and confidence they built there didn’t stay at camp. Many campers went on to become leaders of the disability rights movement, proving that communities can change far more than the people inside them.

This Disability Pride Month, we’re celebrating one of history’s most powerful reminders that safe spaces matter. Because when people are given the chance to belong, incredible things can happen.

❤️🩷🖤 Follow @matterzapp for more stories of resilience, community, and the places that kept people safe when nothing else did.

Some lyrics hit a little deeper than expected. Madonna’s description of the dancefloor as a safe space in her new song “I Feel So Free” is something many of us can relate to.

Whether it’s a dancefloor, a workplace, or a community, the places that stay with us are often the ones where we feel safe enough to be ourselves.

That’s why creating safe spaces matterz. ❤️🩷

Another life lost, this time in Thessaloniki.

A trans person was found deceased inside a shopping mall. Whether it is direct physical violence or a hostile system pushing someone into ultimate despair, the result is the same: the responsibility is both social and state-run.

From systematic exclusion and humiliating misgendering to the recent online transphobic hate under the news of Nikol’s passing, the violence doesn’t stop; not even after death. Our dignity should not be suspended in life or in death.

Institutional transphobia creates real fear, freezes survival opportunities, and translates into direct violence on our streets.

We don’t need more delayed justice. We need immediate, transparent investigations, systemic accountability, and a refusal to look away.

A few posts from the LGBTQIA+ community that caught our attention this Pride Month. 🌈

Some made us laugh. Some made us think. Some reminded us that feeling seen can come from something as simple as a post on your feed. 🫶🙏

The history of the word queer is complex.

For some people, it represents community, inclusion, and self-expression. For others, it carries memories of discrimination and exclusion.

Both realities can exist at the same time.

Understanding where words come from (and how communities reclaim them) helps us create more respectful and inclusive conversations.

What does the word “queer” mean to you today?

Sometimes the most important communities start with a handful of people saying, “You belong here.”

That’s what the Lesbian Avengers created in the early 1990s: a space where different voices could be heard, supported, and celebrated.

Their story is a reminder that behind every movement, there are communities helping people feel seen, connected, and a little less alone.

Happy Pride Month. 🏳️‍🌈💜

Visibility is cool. Safety is cooler.

Pride Month is a celebration, but LGBTQIA+ people deserve safe spaces, inclusive services, and supportive communities all year round.

Have a great Pride Month and stay safe. 🫶🏳️‍🌈

This happened a few days ago, right in our backyard…

A trans woman was physically assaulted and run over with a car on May 22, 2026 in Kallithea, Athens. This violence is the direct consequence of a culture that treats trans lives as disposable and views trans visibility as a provocation.

We talk about “mapping safety” because, for trans women, moving around a city is a literal survival calculation. A street, a neighborhood, or a commute can turn fatal in seconds. We need collective defense, systemic accountability, and a refusal to look away when our community is hunted in broad daylight.

Hollow solidarity does nothing. Demand justice. Stop the violence.

May 24th is Pansexual and Panromantic visibility day.

Pansexual and panromantic erasure happens in both straight and queer spaces. It’s the subtle, daily friction of having your identity assumed away based entirely on who you are currently dating, or treated like a concept people need a dictionary to understand.

True safety is entering a space where your orientation isn’t minimized, questioned, or treated as a placeholder.
