🌕 Buddha Purnima is the most auspicious holiday in Buddhism and celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of Gautama Buddha 🌕 It happens on a different day every year in accordance to the full moon in May 🌕 It is a very special time, I was born under this full moon, observed Matteyya (the highest wisest version of self) under this full moon, and when the time comes, perhaps at the age of 88 or 111, I’ll meditate away under this full moon in May 🌕 Each Buddha Purnima moon is a great moment to realize the wise buddha nature that exists within all of us, recognize God omnipresent in all that exists, and commit to living in compassionate loving selfless service to all of life and humanity 🌕 taken in Los Angeles, California by @matteyya

Those Sake barrels in the background are annually gifted by sake makers to the spirit of the shogun at Meiji Jingu temple

Owl cafe had me feeling like Harry Potter. The owls 🦉 are very well taken care of and get to free fly every day.

This Barred Eagle Owl was named Mr. President

This is a Eurasian Eagle Owl 🦉 one of the largest and most powerful owls in the world! SO COOL 🤓

Woke up early to go to the sumo stables to watch them practice for an upcoming tournament! One of the coolest experiences of the trip! They would throw salt into the ring in between matches to cleanse the ring of bad spirits. These sumos are brothers.

The Sacred Lotus 🪷 so incredibly beautiful. The lotus grows in the mud, a rises above the mud to blossom. Often used as a symbol of the spiritual path in Buddhism. The path begins with the clouded ignorance within the suffering of samsara, when we meditate we transcend the ignorance and suffering and like a lotus our consciousness blossoms.

Doctor Matteyya has a nice ring to it. In 2020, I had no idea what path was in store for me, but the path revealed itself with faith that life would unfold as it must. Hard things are accomplished by consistently showing up one day at a time! Thank you all for the love and support along the way, nothing is done alone. On March, Friday the 13th, 2026, I SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED MY DISSERTATION 🥳😭 I worked on it for 1.5 years, and it is 68 pages long.

Titled “Visionary States of Consciousness: An Amazonian Shaman’s Psychological Approach to Healing” and my study was a qualitative study, meaning that instead of quantifying variables with numbers and statistics, it instead studies new under explored areas of research that illuminates phenomenons for future research. I was able to interview and document an Amazonian Shaman’s (aka Maestro Medico Vegetalista’s) healing approach and worldview; primarily focusing on how and why they access visionary states of consciousness (VCS) from psychedelic plants like ayahuasca and the functions that (VCS) serve, such as diagnosing Mal (I.e., disharmony or imbalances leading to illness), engage subperceptual or subconscious aspects of reality such as the dimension of spirit, and allows participants to recognize the exact moment healing occurs. Ultimately this study has implications for how we develop and conduct psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy protocols and how psychology and Western medicine conceptualizes healing, illness, and clarifies our understanding of spirit as a vivifying, vibrational, substrate that brings life to everything that exists. One of the greatest challenges of this research is that Vegetalismo (i.e Amazonian Shamanism) is a remote difficult to access culture, which passes knowledge through an oral tradition largely kept in Quechua and Spanish, so these aspects of understanding are nearly undocumented in present academic literature. Documenting this incredible healing tradition is one way of preserving the long history of wisdom that this amazing culture has cultivated and refined.
