Pleased to have my one and only vertical sequence work (around 6ft H) currently on display as part of @quayarts anniversary exhibition, celebrating their 50 year journey of helping creativity bloom here on the Isle of Wight.

QA was crucial to my own professional set up back in 2004, giving space to begin with a residency offering 18 months of studio and bursary support as part of @aceagrams ‘Setting Up Scheme’. Always thankful for this start 🙏 and I stayed in my studio there for over 10 years with continued support.

This exhibition takes the format of a physical timeline and charts the beginnings, growth and ongoing activity at Quay Arts, celebrating key movers, groups, artists, acts and users alike. It continues until 13th September taken in Quay Arts by @matthewchambers_

Depuis sa dernière apparition à la Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste lors du Summer Group Show de 2024, l'œuvre de MATTHEW CHAMBERS a poursuivi une évolution particulièrement significative. L'exposition personnelle actuelle marque ainsi une étape importante dans le parcours de l'artiste britannique, en réunissant pour la première fois un ensemble cohérent de vingt et une œuvres témoignant de nouvelles orientations plastiques et formelles.

Parmi elles figurent notamment des pièces majeures réalisées entre 2023 et 2024, telles que "Nest Outside". Conservées dans l'atelier, ces œuvres n'avaient jusqu'alors jamais été présentées, l'artiste estimant qu'elles ne pouvaient pleinement révéler leur portée qu'au sein d'un corpus plus vaste. Leur présence aujourd'hui confère à cette exposition une dimension particulière : celle d'un moment charnière où se dévoilent des recherches jusque-là inédites, offrant un regard renouvelé sur la richesse et la maturité de sa démarche artistique.

Since his last appearance at Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste in the 2024 Summer Group Show, MATTHEW CHAMBERS’ work has undergone a particularly significant evolution. This current solo exhibition marks an important milestone in the British artist’s career, bringing together for the first time a cohesive group of twenty-one works that reveal new formal and sculptural directions in his practice.

Among them are major pieces created between 2023 and 2024, including "Nest Outside". Kept in the studio until now, these works had never previously been exhibited, as the artist felt they could only fully reveal their significance when presented as part of a larger body of work. Their inclusion here lends the exhibition a special dimension: that of a pivotal moment in which previously unseen explorations are unveiled, offering a renewed perspective on the richness, depth, and maturity of his artistic practice.

Shared Material :: Ceramics Showcase
6 June - 1 July 2026

Join us for the opening on Saturday 6 June from 2-4pm.

This exhibition brings together sculptural ceramic works by eleven artists. Using clay as a shared point of departure, the exhibition highlights the diversity of approaches, forms and ideas that emerge through individual practices. While united by material, the works reveal distinct sensibilities - ranging from precise and architectural to expressive and intuitive - demonstrating the breadth of contemporary ceramic practice.
Through this focused presentation, the exhibition invites viewers to consider how a single material can generate a wide spectrum of artistic responses, shaped by each artist’s process, perspective and relationship to clay.

So pleased with how these works have gone down at @galeriedelancienneposte . All are made using a fairly new process, since 2024, with 2 of the works (Reach and Turn) waiting from then until now to be shown. This tricky making process, which allows the inner layers project a long way outside of the form has taken nearly 20 years of practice to get right, so really happy that all the effort and pain of fail and try again has been worth it. Big thanks to the gallery and their friends and collectors for such a passionate and positive response to all my works at the weekend.

Il permet au mouvement visuel de se déployer naturellement, laissant l’œil parcourir la forme sans résistance. Que les éléments soient superposés, en dessous ou imbriqués, la géométrie circulaire encourage un parcours fluide et ininterrompu, plutôt que de contraindre le regard à s’arrêter ou à changer brusquement de direction, comme le feraient des formes plus angulaires." "The circle, as a continuous line with no beginning, end, or interruption, feels inherently calm and complete. It enables visual movement to unfold naturally, allowing the eye to travel around and into the form without resistance. Whether elements sit above, below, or within one another, the circular geometry encourages a smooth and uninterrupted journey, rather than forcing the eye to stop or change direction abruptly as more angular shapes might." Un premier coup d'oeil à l'exposition de MATTHEW CHAMBERS visible à partir d'aujourd'hui, samedi 16 mai.

Vernissage à partir de 18 h en présence de l'artiste.

Samedi prochain | Notre exposition de MATTHEW CHAMBERS "Le cercle, espace infini de liberté", sera inaugurée ce samedi 16 mai à partir de 18 h en présence de l'artiste !

La Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste est heureuse de présenter la seconde exposition personnelle du renommé céramiste britannique Matthew Chambers, rassemblant à la fois des œuvres récentes spécialement créées pour l'événement et une sélection d'œuvres réalisées entre 2021 et 2024 qui représentent au plus haut niveau les différentes voies d'exploration actuelle de l'artiste.

Ainsi que l'évoque la critique d'art et curateur Marie Maertens @mariemaertens dans le catalogue de l'exposition,"dans cette cadence, à la fois rapide et lente, il enjoint le spectateur à une expérience contemplative, presque méditative. Galerie de l'Ancienne Poste is delighted to present the second solo exhibition of renowned British ceramic artist Matthew Chambers. The show brings together both recent works created specifically for the occasion and a selection of pieces produced between 2021 and 2024, representing the highest level of the artist’s current exploratory practice.

As Art critic and curator Marie Maertens @mariemaertens writes in the exhibition catalogue, "within this rhythm, both swift and unhurried, he invites the viewer to a contemplative, almost meditative experience, balancing density and flexibility, physicality and elevation, while playing with perspective – perhaps amused by the surprise produced when his works are viewed from different vantage points…"

En accord avec son désir de faire connaître l’excellence de la céramique contemporaine, la Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste a le plaisir d'organiser du 16 mai au 2 juillet 2026 la deuxième exposition personnelle du renommé céramiste britannique MATTHEW CHAMBERS.

Seront présentées 21 œuvres réalisées entre 2021 et 2026, dont certaines marquent des étapes clés dans le parcours de l’artiste. Fidèle au thème du cercle, il explore cette forme universelle qu'il traite avec une virtuosité exceptionnelle.
