⚽️ I got a DM on @behance (a platform every freelance graphic designer should be on!) on my birthday, March 31st.

It led to the opportunity to design official award graphics for the FIFA Club World Cup ‼️

🗂️ This post is a process archive. Design references, rounds of revisions, type studies, graphic breakdowns, a glimpse into the system, and things I learned along the way.

Helvetica is the Oreo of typefaces. 🔠🍪 And that’s not a good thing…

Most graphic designers don’t realize Helvetica wasn’t the original. Neue Haas Grotesk came first in 1957… a typeface built with obsessive precision - shoutout Max👨‍🍳 a piece of design history that got flattened into something mass market and renamed.

Hydrox cookies came before Oreos too. The original buried by the one with better marketing and mass market distribution.

Helvetica became the standard. But it was packaged that way so nobody ever questioned it.

Neue Haas Grotesk is still out there. So is Hydrox.

Now you know what to order‼️

Send to a designer with real taste 💥

👀 & bonus points do you recognize at least 4 of the designers at the beginning?

Taste is the one thing AI can’t copy. Video on that coming soon.

Until then. Obsess over the inputs & dissect. 😤
