I took the dude to Panna Maria. I've been meaning to hit up the Polish Heritage Center since I realized the Houston music venue Fitzgerald's was once upon a time a Polish community center. The town is small, the history is rich, and the old church is a painted beauty.Panna Maria is the oldest permanent Polish settlement in the United States. Arriving in 1854 the Polish settlers made and continue to build community and contribute to the story of Texas to this day. The interpreted history, traces the origins of the Polish people then travels through time to the people of Upper Silesia who came here during the turbulent mid-1800s then takes a look at the community and religion that bound them to the land, each other, and Texas.Also, super dope to see the statue of Mary, the immaculate conception, and the conquest of the snake of the world. The statue immediately reminded me Quito's amazing monument, The Virgin of El Panecillo. I have been grappling with the symbol of the snake especially in its relationship to Catholicism. I am inclined to listen to Joseph Campbell's interpretations from his amazing series, "The Masks of God" as it lines up with other things I've been swayed by like Gloria Anzaldua's ideas in "Borderlands/La Frontera". The snake is Snake Woman/"paganism". by @matthewgdobbs

G and I went to the Texas Toy Museum and Arcade, then to Mt. Bonnell. Both are well worth it. The Toy Museum has playable consols from all eras. So cool to get to teach my dude the proper techniques of blowing into Nintendo cartridge! Getting to get to be my son's 5th grade teacher has been the privildge of my life and I am so excited for him going off to 6th grade... but boy am I gonna miss this. What a challenge, I hope I was able to set him up for success. by @matthewgdobbs

This week the state board of education is listening to public testimony and taking public comments on the new TEKS public school curriculum standards. I testified to ensure the board adopts a strong skills based curriculum to assist student learning in reason and media literacy.It was really exciting! by @matthewgdobbs

I gave testimony at the Texas State Board of Education last week on 28 Jan 2026. Summer said I should call it the "Dudes and Dates" speech. I was at the meeting from 8am to about 9pm. I was blown away by the hard work done at the meeting and some of the crazy things that are being proposed for Texas education. One love y'all! by @matthewgdobbs
