Dear network

Truly looking forward to this and hope to see you on May 15 for a conversation on socially engaged practices and the premises of change – also within the institutional modes of care and public engagement.

Social Form x LOKALE:

Isn’t that social work? feat. Samara Sallam & Cecilia Widenheim

Thursday 15 May 2025 at 17 - 19
@lokale_27 Prags Boulevard 63E, 2300 Cph. S

Welcome to this dialogue format, developed and hosted by Social Form at LOKALE, presenting the work of artist Samara Sallam and director of Tensta Konsthall Cecilia Widenheim, on artistic practice, social engagement, impact and representation.

How can we share practice in the socially engaged art field, what are the premises of socially engaged artistic work and what kind of relation can we develop between artists and the institutional framework in the attempt to matter, reach new publics and impact current political agendas?

This afternoon's programme features Palestinian artist Samara Sallam, born in Damascus in 1991 and trained as a visual artist, journalist and hypnotherapist and
Cecilia Widenheim who runs Tensta Konsthall - a socially engaged and internationally profiled art centre in the middle of a social housing area in the suburbs of Stockholm.

The two 30-minute presentations will be followed by a collective discussion moderated by Matthias Borello (founder and editor of Social Form).

After the conversation we'll share a vegan meal.

The event is a part of @artmatterfestival 2025

Social Form is a project, platform and publication on socially engaged art practices in Denmark launching the website during summer and fall 2025. The dialogue format 'Isn’t that social work?' will be an ongoing series of conversations on social practices, experiences and possible models within the Danish art scene – and beyond.

Social Form is supported by
@statenskunstfond @augustinusfonden @nycarlsbergfondet and @billedkunstnernesforbund

Please join Donald Weber @donaldweber and myself in conversation at Prospekt @prospekt.space on Saturday 12 April at 16:00!

Donald has written the foreword for my new book HRTLND and on Saturday we will join in conversation in the exhibition of HRTLND. We will be discussing how each of us approach photographing sites that are meant to remain out of sight in society: in Donald Weber’s case what he terms ‘Operational Landscapes’ and in mine militarised spaces. What is the role of the photographer in a world of deceitful images?

After the conversation we will open up the discussion with the audience. Hope to see you there!

BOOK LAUNCH AND EXHIBITION OPENING 👀

HRTLND launches on April 10 and you’re invited!
The book enters the world with a large-scale exhibition of the project at Prospekt @prospekt.space, Eriksgade 15, 1708 Copenhagen and in the public space at Halmtorvet.

~

HRTLND by Danish photographer Mads Holm is a powerful exploration of life in a rapidly changing world, captured across 20 European and North American countries between 2013 and 2023. Through striking images of urban life, demonstrations, emerging technologies, migration, architecture, and militarized spaces, the book reflects on the paradoxes and tensions shaping modern society. It highlights the interplay between connectivity and control, freedom and surveillance, and the gradual militarization of everyday life.

The book presents a hyperreal landscape where the ordinary is interwoven with the unsettling, challenging the viewer to question what is visible and what remains obscured. Here Holm captures the undercurrents of global capitalism, militarization, and societal fragmentation, offering a layered narrative that is as much an artistic statement as it is a political act.

~

Speeches and performance by Mads Holm at 17:30.

Schedule for events at Prospekt following the opening:

Conversation with Donald Weber and Mads Holm:
Saturday 12 April at 16:00-17:30 @donaldweber

The HRTLND exhibition is generously supported by: Politiken-Fonden, Vesterbro Lokaludvalg @vesterbrolokaludvalg and Rådet for Visuel Kunst - Københavns Kommune.

Curating the upcoming show with the magnificent Mads Holm @madsholmmads at @prospekt.space unfolding his ten year work HRTLND along the mighty publication of the project with @disko_bay_books ‼️

The project is remarkable and relevant in an almost scary way, exploring “the interplay between connectivity and control, freedom and surveillance, and the gradual militarization of everyday life.”
I have been involved since October and from there on, and from each day passing the project has just gained momentum 🤯

Will post more on the project soon!

Join us for the opening April 10. 5-9 pm
