This friendly sock-puppet with donkey ears is a Lined Thuridilla (Thuridilla lineolata). Swipe to see the proof that in Sacoglossa school they forget to teach the subject of gravity. Or how else could anyone explain this position 🤔?Spotted by @frenkimutia while diving on the North Sulawesi mainland coast.#thuridillalineolata #sacoglossa #thuridilla #sonyalpha #retrauwt #divingsulawesi #siladenresort #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn

This shrimp from the Lembeh Strait looked quite unspectacular and I thought identifying it would be a piece of cake. Turns out I was wrong. No match in my crustaceans guidebook. In the meantime t's identified, thank you @michaels_bubbles for identifying as Phycomenes sp. It's also called the chocolate shrimp because it gets brown then it grows up. This one is apparently a juvenile and they are still (partly) transparent.Spotted and snooted by @hiros_tempone #divinglembeh #sonyalpha #underwatermacro #solitudelembehresort #phycomenessp by @matthiashunn

Delegate the work? These are two photos of a Black Goby (Gobius niger) sitting on a bivalve (Pinna nobilis). Both taken in the Bassin de Thau in the South of France.Today I got mail from Chat GPT encouraging me to try out its image skills. These photos were a good challenge as there was quite a lot of backscatter in the water and black objects are always difficult. I was curious what AI could do with these conditions. The prompt was to develop the RAW file, optimize for clarity and contrast and to eliminate backscatter. To give some help I stated the exact species of goby and bivalve. The first photo is my work, developed with Darktable and GIMP. The second one is Chat GPT on the basis of a RAW file and my prompt. The result is very clear to me. I will have to develop my RAW files the old fashioned way. What do you think? Did you also try the help of AI in developing RAW files?#gobiusniger #pinnanobilis #bassindethau #sonyalpha #retrauwt #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn

Colored light can turn a soft coral (Dendronephthya) into a fairy tale landscape. The main character of the tale, Taylor's Inflator Filefish (Brachaluteres taylori) explores the landscape in its quest to ... 🤔 well why not save the world?Thank you @hiros_tempone for spotting and light.#softcoral #dendronephthya #brachaluterestaylori #taylorsinflatorfilefish #sonyalpha #divinglembeh #solitudelembehresort #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn

This Soft Coral Porcelain Crab (Lissoporcellana nakasonei) lives in a Sea Pen. Fortunately for me as a photographer, it was at the very end of the Sea Pen where it's more difficult to hide. Thanks @hara_siregar and @eddie.the.diver for the help with the ID.This tiny critter was spotted by @frenkimutia #porcelaincrab #seapen #lissoporcellananakasonei #divingsulawesi #sonyalpha #retrauwt #nauticamhousings #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn

Eating lightThe backlight makes this Hairy Frogfish (Antennarius striatus) look as if it's eating light. Shot with 90mm lens, 1/60, f16, ISO 400Spotted by @hiros_tempone who was also responsible for the precise lighing. #hairyfrogfish #backlight #antennariusstriatus #sonyalpha #divinglembeh #solitudelembehresort #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn

No flowerWhen you see a flower in the underwater world you can bet that the flower is actually an animal. This one is a tube worm (Sabella spallanzanii). It's always the same story: Everything is just more beautiful underwater, especially snails and worms 😍.This photo is from May when @toni_ber and I were looking for nudis in the Bassin de Thau without success. So we had to settle with what we found 😉.#mediterraneanfanworm #sabellaspallanzanii #tubeworm #underwatermacro #etangdethau #bassindethau by @matthiashunn

As so often this Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus) was seeking shelter in a piece of debris. The light here is a combination of a blue torch layed in the sand on the right side combined with a frontal white light snoot. Second shot with white light only just to show what the scene looked like.#amphioctopusmarginatus #coconutoctopus #octopus #underwatermacro #sonyalpha #siladenresort by @matthiashunn

The challenge!I always find it very difficult to make Ambon Scorpionfish (Pteroidichthys amboinensis) look good in photos. Most of my shots are bad and/or boring. But when @hiros_tempone backlighted this one on a night dive I finally managed to get a shot I like. I was quite lucky because I had forgotten to load my camera battery and shortly after this shot I was enjoying this night dive without taking shots 🤦‍♂️.#ambonscorpionfish #pteroidichthysamboinensis #pteroidichthys #scorpionfish #backlight #sonyalpha #underwatermacro #divinglembeh by @matthiashunn

Bad mood! This Mantis Shrimp (I think it's a Lysiosquillina lisa) was in a really bad mood and started throwing sand at my camera as soon as I got ready to photograph it. I had a suspicion and back on the boat I asked the other divers if they also had visited this guy. Everyone had. Therefore, I was obviously just one photographer too many and it really had enough of those nasty stalkers. I kept the session short but was lucky to catch the moment when it was preparing another load of sand for me.#lysiosquillinalisa #lysiosquillina #mantisshrimp #spearingmantisshrimp #siladenresort #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn

Too large! It doesn't happen very often that a nudibranch is too large for the frame. Most of them need a macro lens plus an additional macro wet lens and they still don't fill the frame. This one grows to a whopping 150 mm which is an absolute giant in nudi terms. It's called the Solar Powered Phyllodesmium (Phyllodesmium longicirrum). First shot taken with f/14; 1/250, second shot f8; 1/100 both with ISO 160#phyllodesmiumlongicirrum #solarpoweredphyllodesmium #divinglembeh #solitudelembehresort #underwatermacro by @matthiashunn
