5 meter man at @mahallaberlin for UNRUHE

An older work (2019) on display at UNRUHE exhibition
It works perfectly in front of the worn down walls with the complimentary colored plaster peeling of
The majestic industrial halls of @mahallaberlin provided the perfect backdrop for my shaped canvases

🐕“This mural depicts a typical Georgian street dog set against a traditional patterned background. In Georgia, street dogs are not seen as strays but as part of the community. They are cared for by the people and live peacefully among them—belonging to everyone and no one at the same time.
I chose this motif to honor the unique relationship between people and street dogs in Georgia. These dogs move freely through the streets, yet they are deeply connected to the lives of those around them. They are peaceful, friendly, and often play an unexpected but powerful role in public life—standing beside protestors, guarding neighborhoods, and even earning the nickname riot dogs for their loyalty and presence during demonstrations.
By placing the dog in front of a traditional pattern, I wanted to highlight its place within Georgian identity—an emblem of solidarity, resilience, and the quiet, everyday bonds that shape a culture.
Their presence echoes a long-standing cultural appreciation, reminiscent of the tender way Niko Pirosmani once portrayed them—as soulful beings, fully part of human life”

@matthiasmross ,
@camposviola.ngo ,
Monika Hirner & Paul Huf, @the_long_run_muenchen_

In Zusammenarbeit mit The Long Run e.V.

Looking back at DENKRAUM DEUTSCHLAND 2023 at Pinakothek der Moderne — curated by Miro Craemer.
Under the theme “HEY ALTER”, the exhibition brought together art, generations and social dialogue. Featuring works by Jonathan Meese, FLATZ, Wolfgang Joop, Florentine Joop, Virginia Monteverde, Matthias Mross, Maria Khan, Siyoung Kim, Milan Mihajlovic, Thomas Weinberger, Tanja Hirschfeld, Monika Huber, Johannes Evers, Julian Shreddy Eibel, Josephine Kaiser, Joachim Jung, Ransome Stanley and many other artists. Guests included Doris Dörrie as well as numerous artists and cultural contributors through talks, performances and encounters.

I had the opportunity to create a live mural throughout the entire duration of the exhibition — an open process shaped through interaction with visitors, artists and the space itself.

Zu Gast waren u.a.

We spent an existing studio visit in Munich with Matthias Mross

He paints people you might walk past on the street without looking twice — and then makes you look. His canvases mix patterned fabrics, thick layers of paint, and a kind of patience that feels almost out of place in 2026.
We talked about the faces in his work. The cities he carries with him. Why he still believes in painting — slowly, by hand, in front of a wall or a canvas — when so much of the world moves on without it.
Matthias has painted murals across Munich, Georgia, Vietnam, France, and the US. His work has been shown at the Pinakothek der Moderne and MUCA. But what stayed with us wasn’t the list of places — it was how he talked about the people he paints.
This one’s worth your time.
