Club Onyx, a set design created for Tokyo Vice in collaboration with production designer Jeff Mann, captures the gritty essence of a 90's detective story based on true events. This design was crafted for the pilot episode, directed by Michael Mann. As the show unfolded, it became increasingly compelling, with season 2 culminating dramatically in a crescendo of suspense. I created several drone designs for "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" while collaborating with Production Designer Jon Billington. They were meant to be made of 3d printed parts. Additionally, I was tasked with visualizing scenes for the VFX department that depicted moments from Marcus's afterlife trip during a near-death experience. Originally, the story also included scenes from his past lives with Mike, adding hilarious moments to this super fun, action-packed film. Sadly, the donkey scene didnt get finished on time for the opening but will get added later for streaming, but if you watch the movie, you'll see that its essence wasn't entirely lost.#badboys #badboysrideordie #blender #blender3d #conceptart #conceptartist by @matthiasun

A tense scene unfolds in Dark Matter episode 5, where Jason opens a door to a dimension where Chicago is flooded by Lake Michigan. As he struggles to quickly close the door to restore the box's interdimensional state, he realizes he must first wait for the box to fill completely with water.A cube of water remains, suspended in the now-restored corridor, before dissipating and leaving our heroes panting and gasping for air.This pivotal moment instills in the characters the determination to master the mechanisms of interdimensional travel, marking the point where the show's truly introspective nature begins to take shape.It was the perfect opportunity to learn about the fluid physics engine in Blender. I was hired on the production of "Dark Matter" by Visual Effects Art Director Cassidy Shipley a while back to help visualize environment concepts for the many parallel worlds depicted in this mind-bending multiverse Apple TV show. All the environments were based on real-world dimensions, making it crucial to achieve a realistic appearance, even though it’s a sci-fi series. For instance, some worlds had a burnt atmosphere, which prevented us from using atmospheric perspective. This presented the challenge of managing levels of contrast typically only seen in space. Working with full-size models of Chicago and city blocks, fluid simulations, and various extreme atmospheric conditions was one of the best learning experiences I've had. I am incredibly grateful to Cassidy, Supervisor AD David Bridson and Production Designer Patricio Ferrel for having me on the team. These cover a few of the illustrations until episode 5. Perspective, the magazine of the Art Directors Guild, has published production designer Richard Bridgland's article about the making of the world of One Piece. They've even featured it on the cover, with a detail from one of my illustrations of Windmill Village. The article explores the concept work involved in building the show and how it was physically created on stages, backlots, and locations. I worked on a few more T. Rowe Price illustrations with Jason Hamilton. Over the last six months, every commercial I've been involved in has been very VFX-heavy, with the art department moving more towards digital. Thanks to AI imagery provided to me, we could jump into 3D quickly. This alignment of initial concepts between the agency, director, and client significantly reduced confusion and stress, especially under extremely tight schedules. The AI images given to me served as a buffer, creating a more creative and relaxed environment where we could focus on refining the work to better suit our purposes and reduce the risk of going in the wrong direction.#blender #blender3d # #tvcommercial by @matthiasun

I was asked to do a Prop Comic book to use on the set of Grey's Anatomy for the actors to interact with in episode 2007. The production designer John Zachary and his team sent me some image references and excerpts from the script, helping me understand the context. They emphasized that the main focus should be on the composition of the pages and cover, with the text and story coming second. This approach was to ensure that viewers can grasp the content and subject matter even if the filming doesn't capture the text clearly. Illustrations created for a TRowe Price Commercial campaign "Better questions. Better outcomes." helped production designer Jason Hamilton bridge the gap between the designed and built set pieces and the VFX department.
