About last night …such a beautiful reminder of why I love making music, especially live. An idyllic setting, a perfect sunset, a few hundred people in complete silence. I felt totally in synch with the songs and with everyone present, so thank you so much for being there to listen to new songs and old. My heart is full, and i’m so so ready to be back on the road. Big thanks to @escalelatournee & @cidreriemilton for making it happen 🍎—À propos d’hier soir… Quel magnifique rappel de tout ce que j’aime de la musique, surtout en live. Un décor idyllique, un coucher de soleil parfait, quelques centaines de personnes dans un silence absolu.Je me suis senti totalement en phase avec les chansons et avec toutes les personnes présentes, alors merci infiniment d’avoir été là pour écouter les nouvelles chansons comme les plus vieilles .J’ai le cœur rempli, et ca m’a donné très envie reprendre la route au plus vite..Un grand merci à L’escale et la Cidrerie Milton d’avoir rendu ça possible 🍎📸: @veronique.a.g by @mattholubowski

Sneaking in a handful of last minute summer sessions to put the finishing touches on LP5 🌻 I’ll be trying out a few of the new songs for you at the handful of solo shows I’m doing this summer to warm up for the upcoming tour :) I forgot to share the L’Assomption shows back in the spring, and they’ve already sold out anyway. Oops.But there are still tickets available for a lovely intimate outdoor evening in the orchards at Cidrerie Milton 🍎In the meantime, have a nice summer! Hi! I’m here for my quarterly dose of dopamine 😅 How’s everyone doing?⁣⁣I’ve just been living out here, slowly cutting my new record. (Say, if a folk record isn’t made out in the woods, is it really even a folk record?)⁣⁣We’ve got ten songs taped now, all in varying degrees of completion. A couple with the band, a few on my own. I’ve got another two or three left to record, along with this nagging feeling that I’m going to write the best one of the lot before long. It’s floating around out there somewhere—I can feel it. I just need to catch it.⁣⁣I’m still optimistic about a fall release, though I’ll probably have to speed things up if that’s going to happen… send me some motivating words if you have any!⁣⁣I’m admittedly nervous about release new music because it means having to come back on here more often to promote myself and justify my existence again. But the excitement of releasing new music, touring, and reconnecting with all of you—in person—definitely makes it easier.⁣⁣Wishing you a lovely end of winter. Excited to reunite.⁣⁣Love,⁣⁣Matt⁣⁣—⁣⁣Salut! C’est le temps de ma dose trimestrielle de dopamine 😅 Comment allez-vous?⁣⁣Moi ça va. J’habite en campagne et j’enregistre tranquillement mon nouvel album. (Dites, si un album folk n’est pas fait en forêt, est-ce vraiment un album folk?)⁣⁣On a maintenant dix chansons enregistrées, toutes à différents stades de finition. Quelques-unes avec le band, d’autres en solo. Il m’en reste encore 2-3 à enregistrer. J’ai aussi un genre de pressentiment que la meilleure du lot reste à venir. Elle flotte quelque part dans l’air, je le sens — il ne reste qu’à l’attraper.⁣⁣Je reste optimiste pour une sortie d’album à l’automne, même si je vais sans doute devoir accélérer le rythme pour y arriver… envoyez-moi des mots d’encouragement si vous en avez!⁣⁣J’avoue être un peu nerveux à l’idée de sortir du nouveau parce que ça veut dire devoir venir ici plus souvent pour me promouvoir et justifier mon existence… Mais ça prend tout son sens quand je penses à enfin partager du son, à repartir en tournée et à vous retrouver en personne.⁣⁣Sur ce, un très bon restant d’hiver à vous!⁣⁣Matt by @mattholubowski

Hi friends,⁣⁣Fall is almost upon us, my favourite time of year. I await the sound and smell of crushed leaves with much impatience.⁣⁣Still chipping away at new songs, it’s slow going. We’re aiming to record this fall and winter, so add a few months for the business end of things, and if all goes well, it should reach your ears around this time next year. I know, I know, it’s 2025 and we’re meant to release music every 45 seconds. But too bad for Tik Tok, I’m doing it this way.⁣⁣Speaking of moving slow, I’m doing a single random (free!) gig this fall and it’s for a meditation event at Chateau Frontenac at sunrise on Sept 13. When I was offered the gig I was unsure, because well, I don’t meditate. But then it occurred to me that playing music is its own form of meditation - a fully out of body experience, if you’re doing it right. So I figured, why not, it will be fun!⁣⁣Hope to see you there x⁣⁣Présent à Québec⁣@meditation_au_lever_du_soleil Sept 13, 6AM⁣Chateau Frontenac⁣⁣⁣Salut les ami.e.s,⁣⁣L’automne approche à grands pas, ma période préférée de l’année. J’attends avec impatience le son et l’odeur des feuilles mortes.⁣⁣Je suis encore en train de peaufiner de nouvelles chansons, ça avance lentement. On prévoit d’enregistrer cet automne/hiver, alors ajoutez quelques mois pour la mise en place business/promo, et si tout se passe bien, vous devriez entendre tout ça l’automne prochain. Je sais, je sais, on est en 2025 et on est censés sortir de la musique toutes les 45 secondes. Mais tant pis pour TikTok, je fais ça comme ça.⁣⁣En parlant de ralentir, je donne un concert un peu insolite pour moi (et gratuit !) le 13 Septembre, pour un événement de méditation au Château Frontenac, au lever du soleil. Quand on m’a proposé ce concert, je me demandais si j’étais le bon candidat, parce que bon, je ne médite pas. Mais ensuite, j’ai réalisé que jouer de la musique est une forme de méditation en soi – une expérience totalement extracorporelle, si on s’y prend bien. Alors je me suis dit, ‘’pourquoi pas?’’, ça va être une occasion de proposer mes versions de chansons les plus planates !⁣⁣En espérant vous voir là :) by @mattholubowski

Nothing much to report here besides the slow summer sun. Writing, tinkering, pondering the next thing - not lazily, but without much urgency either. I figure, there will be ample time to be in a hurry later on, so I might as well enjoy living in the quiet minute for now. Still, I’ve written around 35 songs this past year, 1/3 of which are - I think - quite good. Others are quite bad, and others still have great potential, but need some more time to ripen. In any case, I’m getting pretty close to being ready to record something.These pictures were taken by @veronique.a.g in a sleepy Spanish village back in April, when summer had already crept in while it was still snowing back home in Montreal. Wrote this one a little over a year ago. I initially recorded it as a semi-gag with a cheesy drum machine and way overproduced sounds and vocals, just for fun, and for the combined creative and technical exercise. I shelved it almost immediately, because I let the production define what it meant to me - that is to say, not very much. This week, I’ve been cleaning up my insane pile of lyrics and landed on these, and just sort of played it with a fair amount of melancholy, and suddenly it hit totally differently.Maybe I will look into preserving it somehow. Here’s a bit of it in the mean time. Thanks for listening. I think it’s called Falsetto Moon. —J’ai écrit celle-ci il y a un peu plus d’un an. Je l’avais initialement enregistrée comme une sorte de blague avec un drum machine un peu quétaine et des sons et des voix surproduits, juste pour le fun, et pour l’exercice créatif et technique. Je l’ai écarté presque immédiatement, car j’ai laissé la production définir ce qu’elle signifiait pour moi – c’est-à-dire pas grand-chose. Cette semaine, alors que je faisais le ménage dans ma grosse pile de paroles, je suis tombée dessus. Je l’ai jouée avec une bonne dose de mélancolie, et soudain, elle est devenu totalement différent. Je vais peut-être essayer de la retravailler. En attendant, en voici un extrait. Merci de votre écoute. Je crois que ça s’appelle Falsetto Moon. by @mattholubowski

I was meant to play my favourite Elliott Smith song, Waltz #2, at a charity event this past weekend organized by @mond_productions , who was generously raising funds for the @lephareenfantsetfamilles . Sadly, I had to cancel last minute because I was busy getting my ass kicked by a pretty hardcore flu.Here’s a snippet of it, buried by today’s downpour. If you’d like to donate, I’ll put up a link in a story shortly, or just hit up @lephareenfantsetfamilles with whom I’ve worked before, and who do wonderful work. _Je devais interpréter ma chanson préférée d’Elliott Smith, Waltz #2, lors d’une soirée bénéfice organisée le week-end dernier par @mond_productions, qui collectait généreusement des fonds pour @lephareenfantsetfamilles. Malheureusement, j’ai dû annuler à la dernière minute, car j’étais occupé à me faire kicker le derrière par une fièvre assez intense. Voici un petit extrait, enseveli sous le déluge de cet après midi. Back in March, my dear friend @connor_seidel came down to the house to hang out and write a couple of songs. We got three done in two and half days. A month later, I took one of them for a spin while touring in France and Belgium, just to see how it would sit in my set, and how people would react to it. I changed up the form and the energy a little bit each night, continuing to craft all the little subtleties, and slowly but surely I started to feel it come to life. Well, it seems to have resonated with people, because night after night I was asked what the name of the song was, and where one could find it… the answer: nowhere, for now. But here’s a bare bones snippet of it, in the mean time :) —En mars dernier, mon cher ami Connor est venu à la maison pour écrire quelques chansons. On en a terminé trois en deux jours et demi. Un mois plus tard, j’en ai testé une lors de ma tournée en France et en Belgique, juste pour voir comment elle s’intégrerait à mon set et comment le public la recevrait. J’ai légèrement modifié la forme et l’énergie chaque soir, continuant à peaufiner les subtilités de la chanson, et petit à petit, j’ai commencé à la sentir prendre vie. Firmly back on home soil, but the mind’s still wandering on some backroad cobblestone on the way to a stage somewhere.Some souvenirs from this lovely FR/BE tour I was just on. THANK you to @aliocha.s and @charles.cfrtc for having me, thanks to the lovely audiences who were so generously attentive, the venues who were wonderfully welcoming, thanks to my team who organized the whole thing, and thanks to Veronique who ran the show as Tour Manager/Photographer/Merch. 📸 1,6,11,12: @veronique.a.g — De retour à la maison, mais l’esprit erre encore sur les pavés d’une petite allée perdue en route vers une scène quelque part. Went on a little Spanish escapade with my numero uno before the tour began. Demain, je serai à Marseilles au @theatredeloeuvre , très très hâte 🌻.
