Got to spend some time with a dear friend and coworker and his wife today. Don Houghton taught me a lot in my first 8 years at Costco, amd although he moved to PA 10 yrs ago, we’ve managed to stay in touch. He always said that if we ever made it to this side of the country, I had to come come visit. Well, we wrapped up a great week in Pennsylvania today seeing him and his wife Barb. Great conversation, food, and a tour of his beautiful house and amazing Fan Cave in their basement! What a great time! by @matthuff123

Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing wife, Nicole! She’s the glue that keeps up together, the rock that holds us down, and is an amazing partner on this carnival roller coaster we call life. Wrapped up birthday week for Maddie and I by going to the Roadrunner game this evening! It’s been a Looooong week/weekend and we’re exhausted, but we had a blast getting to see and hang out with bunches of our family and friends. Tomorrow is right back to work and sports and all the things that keep us busy! by @matthuff123

Today is Aaron’s birthday. He’s have been 49 today. Heading into the last year of his forties, as I traverse the last 2 weeks of the same. It’s been weird not having him around for the last four years. I still yearn to call him sometimes when I’m in the car for a drive across town or if I have a few minutes of downtime. We both were so proud of the others’ accomplishments, and we kind of lived vicariously through one another…….he was the traveler with the cool job, and I the Dad and Coach of all the things, living a “normal” life. Birthday time for us was when we both made it a point in our busy lives to take a time out and spend some quality time together….he would come to Tucson or I’d go to Dallas, and we’d spend time talking about life and its challenges while going to our respective favorite food and beverage joints. It’s where I met some of his friends, Sean, Ashley, Jericho to name a few, who’ve become friends of mine, and for that I’m thankful.
I’m sure we all kind of fumble through this day to an extent. Do we celebrate his birthday happily? Are we supposed to be sad because he’s not here? It’s a bit awkward, to be honest, but I live with the faith that our grandparents instilled in us at a young age that Aaron is not sad he’s not here. Imagine the birthday celebrations in Heaven?! I’ll be sad, for myself, that I can’t personally wish him a Happy Birthday and raise a toast with him, and his friends….but….Aaron is celebrating as well, eternally. Happy Birthday, little bro! First day of High School for Madison. Although she’s nervous, she’s already crushing the high school experience by knowing so many people on campus, both on staff and her many friends that she’s made through sports, and participating in Varsity Basketball through the summer. The future is bright for this amazing young lady! Go Titans!
And…….There may have been a wardrobe change or 2 before we finally left the house. by @matthuff123

Last day of middle school for Madison. This group of kids has been a joy to watch grow up before our eyes, and I look forward to watching (maybe coaching?!) all the amazing things they’re going to be doing in high scho! by @matthuff123

Leaving West Virginia, having just got on the freeway leaving my Mom and Grandma’s place, and John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” comes on the radio. Pretty fitting, since Rebecca was born here!
This wasn’t a fun, visiting trip, and we definitely didn’t get to see hardly any family, but we did get Grandma down to see her sister for the first time in a few years, and it was awesome! Mostly, this was a trip to be here for my mom and Grandma, but I’ll be back soon, for longer, as there’s much to be done to get these 2 ladies taken care of! by @matthuff123
