I’m from Oklahoma originally. Sweet tea is kind of in my DNA. If you don’t know the recipe for sweet tea, just stick to your fancy dancy, mocha dappa lappacino. The key is there should be enough sugar for the spoon to stand up straight in the pitcher at the end.

Alas when I lost all the weight and changed my drinking habits I gave up sweet tea and coke. The saving grace is these little zero calorie drink mixes. It ain’t the same. But it’s better than Die Uh Beeties! Creature comforts away from home. by @mattiewalk

Today Philip shared his story at a parents group. Philip’s mom shared some of her story as well. We were able to have some open and honest dialogue in ministry time. Sonja served a wonderful lunch. And our old friend Dr. Shirley Baskett joined us for the day. Sonja shared copies of her new book, Totally Girl. I shared singer insights with the parents about my walk as well. Then we enjoyed a huge afternoon of fellowshipping and sharing. Now we are all worn out. by @mattiewalk

In May 2020 I tried to get to Fiji. COVID closed the door. My Aussie ministry friend Shirley kept the connection alive. Today, while boarding our plane to Sydney, I reflected on 6 days in Fiji. 6 years in the making. What a success! Fiji ministry? I can hear you chuckle under your breath. Beach time totaled less than 3 hours. We came for 2 events and 3 meetings with local guys. These were ministry opportunities we’d been planning for months.

On day 2 we shared and taught 7 guys at Adult and teen challenge. That evening Philip and I were the main speakers at the first Men’s Seminar Pastor Raj’s church had ever had. I found this terrifying and exciting simultaneously. What could two guys who left homosexuality possibly have to say to church men, in Fiji, on Fathers Day? Apparently a lot. God gave us the words. We shared. Pastor Raj translated into Hindi. Pastor Raj is so faithful and full of the joy of the Lord. There were only a few men when the seminar started, but he wasn’t worried about numbers. Yet, many more came once it began. We were asked to share our testimonies, but it was also the night before Father’s Day. Father’s Day is a big deal here. No Pressure! Afterward, the men all came up to shake our hands and say hello. It was humbling, wonderful and healing. We then sat and ate a meal prepared by the pastor after.

Thank you for your prayer and financial support. Many of you have reached out to offer both. We couldn’t do this without you. Shirley knew we would see the needs and care for the people the same way she does. What a privilege to sit and break bread and testify of what Jesus can and will do. There is evidence of God’s presence all over Fiji. Scripture on walls. Christian phrases on coffee cup lids. by @mattiewalk

Prayers for today:
Philip and I are sharing our testimonies, words and prayers with a group of men at Teen Challenge Nadi in 2 hours. Later this evening we’ll be sharing and dining with a recovery group. Cover us today in prayer. May God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit be the only ones shining at the end of the day. We came to serve and intend to serve. Pray for the opportunities that God has ordained to be illuminated.

We are encouraged by the hospitality and kind greetings of the Fijian people. They greet you with smiles and “Bula”. Our two restaurant servers yesterday let us know very specifically that they were born again Christians. Josh even invited us to his church.

Please pray also for our Sunday afternoon meeting with a famous local pastor here. He’s graciously given us an afternoon to connect. by @mattiewalk
