Reliving this moment as this beautiful female was watching me from below and swam up the moment I saw her, as if playing peek a boo, my heart blew wide open and the tears followed.

Emotional bonds from above and beyond, their innate intelligence and social structures amongst themselves (and sometimes us when they so choose) is such a marvel to witness. I’m completely humbled and in awe in such presence. Immense gratitude 🙏🏼

When a huge pod of false orcas swim up to the bow of the boat and are super chatty showing off their grace and beauty!

I’m in complete awe reliving this incredibly rare encounter 😍✨🤍🌊

Also is it just me or do these beauties need a new name!? They’re their own beautiful species and deserve a name that reflects that! What would you name them if so?

𝖨𝖺 ora na; 𝖺 𝖳𝖺𝗁𝗂𝗍𝗂𝖺𝗇 𝗀𝗋𝖾𝖾𝗍𝗂𝗇𝗀 𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍 𝗆𝖾𝖺𝗇𝗌 “𝗆𝖺𝗒 𝗒𝗈𝗎 𝗅𝗂𝗏𝖾 𝗅𝗈𝗇𝗀”; 𝖺 𝗋𝖾𝖿𝗅𝖾𝖼𝗍𝗂𝗈𝗇 𝗈𝖿 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝗅𝗈𝗏𝖾 & 𝗋𝖾𝗏𝖾𝗋𝖾𝗇𝖼𝖾 𝗂𝗆𝗆𝖾𝗌𝗁𝖾𝖽 𝗂𝗇 these beautiful islands 𝖼𝗎𝗅𝗍𝗎𝗋𝖾. I love saying this to people!

I landed in Tahiti and I was met w/ Polynesian song & dance, the vocals with ukulele pierced into my heart, and surfaced uncontrollable tears and memories bringing me back to my roots.

And what are my roots? Well my roots are not in one place or person, they are the collective embodiment of my upbringing and along with my mother’s spiritual journey we found ourselves with many beautiful people and places growing up, one was Aotearoa. 🇳🇿

I lived there for just under two years where we were befriended by beautiful Polynesian people; from Māori to Cook Islanders & Tongans. It reminded me of my upbringing and how I was raised before I was corrupted living in thr big city of Toronto. I mean it though, there’s a level of innocence and purity that comes with being one with the land and its people surrounded by water. It’s about being of service at its core and less about ego, status and materialism. Of course that exists but on a whole it stripped me of the conditioning I had been subjected to and propelled me into heart-led service and community.

FF ⏩ to FP 🏝️and landing there which surfaced alllllll the feels and memories of this energy rooted in heart and soul, and the limitless potential and love that we are before all that fucked up shit happened to us and we identified with.

So this is my haiku; here I am
Swimming with and photographing whales & marine life
Just like I’d day dream about through wildlife books & magazines I would look through as a child
Go after all that you desire
Life is short
It’s meant to be lived
Experienced fully
This is my song to you 🎶🐋

My 1st underwater experience with Humpbacks!!

👉🏽POV you just got off the plane and have landed in French Polynesia, your friend @roamtobewild has a trip organized and although you’re running on fumes from little sleep...

You immediately are baptized by the sapphire waters of this magical place as a mother Humpback Whale with her calf grace you with their presence. ✨

Maururu Teiki @wild_explorer_tahiti for leading an incredible afternoon, Bianca for organizing it all and most importantly thank you God!

It was surreal how quickly and smoothly it all lined up, Bianca reminded me how special this was as the mother and calf stayed at the surface so long which isn’t typical behavior. To have this as my first underwater Humpback experience with good friends in such a sacred place was truly a gift.

Immense gratitude 🙏🏽🌊🐋🤍

Unexpected dinner guests 🦈

Okay so you’re probably wondering how I got here…

🫍Well you see it was a beautiful sunset boat ride with friends, and we found ourselves with a group of very curious and social Orcas that were vocalizing with us (not only themselves) a lot! It was otherworldly.

Then suddenly the vibes changed and we noticed multiple Silky sharks (that were notably the largest we’d ever seen in this area if I might add) and they were super spicy and extra excited about the turtle sashimi that was scattered throughout the water courtesy of our black and white dolphin friends.

After multiple bumps and more sharks surfacing from the dark depths we as a group went back to back with each other to avoid and sneaky moves from behind. The spiciness continued to amplify from all sides and it was then that we tapped out.

It was sooo cool to look back on and a little unnerving in the moment. 😅

Needless to say after returning to the boat it became clear, that the Orcas were not done with us.

We chose to stay topside (for obvious reasons) and we had our time with them which was beautiful and it felt right to enjoy them from above the water for more reasons than one. It was then that they breached, swam along side of the 2-3 boats present including our own.

They tail slapped, spy hopped and put on a show for us. Presumably in celebration of their delicious meal!

👉🏽Fun fact, many believe if there’s Dolphins (or Orcas) present that means there’s no sharks in the area. Well that is actually a myth, Sharks are opportunistic and they will feed on the scraps left behind from members of the dolphin family, even sometimes in the form of their 💩

Huge soul smiles emerge after an underwater dance with a Humpback Whale Calf

All while mom rests on the white and sandy bottom below, after her long travels from the frigid waters of Antarctica. That’s what being in the warmer French Polynesia is all about; recharge, kick your fins up and simply enjoy some down time with your little one.

Watch until the end to see what mom does when she wakes up. 👀

Especially with the presence of social media, it’s all about the shot, about us and what we can take. But what if we turned that perspective around and asked what can we also contribute? To the whales, to the waters and the sacred lands of all these magical places we’re fortunate enough to be in and witness?

Did you know that some Orcas hunt dolphins?!🐬🫍🌊

To celebrate world photography day, I wanted to share some shots I captured of an incredible scene that unfolded this summer. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time as this pod of Orcas took down an adult bottlenose dolphin‼️

Nature is brutal, and sometimes sad to witness however Orcas are apex predators for a reason and well, whales gotta eat!

🌀Fun fact: Orcas are the largest of the dolphin family, with Pilot Whales as the second largest and False Orcas the third. Whats your favorite member of the dolphin family?

The Jaguars of the sea; to quote @natsoffthegrid 🐆🖤

An incredible day with @bajaexpedicionesmexico and my FIRST time with Pilot whales above and below the surface! Such a gift to witness.

Pilot whales are highly intelligent, deeply social marine mammals and are the second-largest members of the dolphin family (next to Orcas). Renowned for their bulbous foreheads and incredibly strong family bonds, they travel in large pods and will actually scare off and bully Orcas in great numbers. Despite the Orcas being the apex predator of the ocean Pilots give them a run for their money.

I think of dolphins and whales as beings more than animals and I often wonder, what do they refer to themselves as? I mean we as humans like to label things and put names on them but in nature they speak wisdom and silence and the language of frequency and vibration using their many tones of vocalization including whistles, clicks and songs.

It makes me think of the quote @petercrone often uses; “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” -Nikola Tesla

My mermaid soul sister @swimming_in_moonlight called it too, that i’d see her fav (Pilots) first this trip - I never imagined I’d see them not once but twice before the Orcas here in the Sea of Cortez. Truly magical 🌌

The King ~ Bakari

To step into one’s power we must accept the scars that we’ve taken on in our life, whilst not allowing them to define us and also refusing to go into agreement with the stories intertwined that keep us small and stuck.

A life of freedom comes at a cost. Much like an Orca in the wild, or any animal for that matter we may never know what tomorrow brings, there is no assurance yet we clench to comfort and safety in a world that was never designed for us to live that way.

Reminders to self, be fearless in pursuit of what sets your soul on fire. Fly and swim free, embrace your destiny and propel forward into all that’s meant to be.

I’d been waiting to share space with a big male like this for some time, he was very calm, open and powerful. Grateful for the moments shared with such a beautiful being native to these magical waters in Baja California.

Did you know: Adult male Orcas often travel at the back or sides of their group/pod for protection of the family, energy efficiency (think slipstream), and stealthy hunting as their larger 5-6 foot towering dorsal fins are easily spotted by prey.

The time finally came…

To bring my camera beneath the surface after photographing cetaceans and marine mammals above the waves over the last several years.

These are my 1st images captured underwater. A long time dream, since I was a child and I’m grateful for all of the people who supported me landing here and for this Hattori Hanzō that is my @ikelite housing, a tool that allows me to get in the water and capture moments many dream of and few ever will experience. 🗡️📸

🪞Here are some words I wrote in self reflection this winter morning; “Self doubt is the biggest killer of dreams, but from which seed did this suffocating weed germinate and sprout?

That question is for you to inspect and discover in any ways you may have inhibited your own evolution due to fear, I know I have. “Past hurts inform future fear” -PC

A wise man once told me; dreams are ethereal and happen when you sleep, don’t have dreams. Have purpose, and fully commit to that which you desire and burn the rest down...the old stories that justify why you were hurt and are the way you are, the constraints that keep you small and unavailable to life; the people pleasing, the trying to make everyone feel comfortable in the pursuit of love and acceptance.

How can you fully commit to anything when your subconscious program running is one of trying to be loved and accepted? It’s exhausting, be unapologetically you, the real you before you went into agreement with all the stories that happened in the past that justifies why we are the way we are. True freedom and possibility is birthed from this place.
