24-hour pilgrimage to ARoS and Aarhus for the art-world opening night of James Turrell’s As Seen Below - The Dome - Turrell’s 100th Skyspace, and his largest to date.

An evening spent within the dome. Difficult to explain. Impossible to forget. One of the most moving artistic experiences I’ve ever had.

Also, Olafur Eliasson @studioolafureliasson took a selfie on my phone, so there’s that.

Go to ARoS. And go soon.

Back in 2019 my thoughtful client @ninaflohr said I had to meet her friend George, as he, like me, is a horse guy and was starting a new business - @georgescottrides.

After way too long and a few failed attempts, last week I finally made it to the rolling countryside and national parks of the Sierra Morena mountain range.

Words cannot do it justice. Five nights riding with George - the best company and horseman - between his stables and farmhouse @taramona_life and his family’s 15th-century property @trasierra_life, staying in the most impressive mobile camp set-ups along the way.

George matched me with the perfect horse: Nubarrón, a giant chestnut Anglo-Arab. My guy. Fast, kind and sure-footed. He never said no.

Six days with a small group of good people. Off-grid. Riding, sleeping, reading, eating the most delicious food and being looked after by an incredible team of humans and horses.

A Peter pilgrimage last weekend to see some truly inspiring architectural works by two of the Swiss masters - Peter Märkli and Peter Zumthor.

La Congiunta by Märkli is monolithic and heavy, in the best possible way. As are the monumental sculptures by Hans Josephsohn that it was built to house. Then the timber discipline of Zumthor’s Sogn Benedetg Chapel is all light and designed in a way that makes you instinctively look up to the heavens. Totally different. Both incredible. Worth the road trip.

I don’t imagine many people who need a holiday go and stay with their clients. But I also know that there are not many clients like @hotelcorazon. Thank you, Kate @katebellm, Edgar @cobracactus, and the wonderful team Corazon, for a week of sun, sleep, swimming, and delicious food fresh from the farm. I needed that. Finally made it to Vals and 7132 Hotel and it’s adjoining Therme baths. I have wanted to come here for years, but timings never worked. I should have tried harder. A hotel with buildings and rooms designed by some of my favourite architects, Tadao Ando, Kengo Kuma and Peter Zumthor. Six indoor and outdoor pools. All at different water temperatures from very hot to freezing cold - fed by natural springs in the Swiss mountains. It knew it would be amazing, that is a giant understatement! Zumthor’s stone spa complex, buried in the hillside, inspired by mountain quarries and caves, is an architectural masterpiece and an experiential overload like I’ve not had since being a kid. It’s a place that stops time and connects you with the elements and yourself. Already planning a return visit. taken in 7132 Thermal Baths & Spa by @mattvines
