This past weekend deserved its own post.

Basketball has given me a lot over the years, but one of the greatest gifts has been the people it has brought into my life.

This weekend started surrounded by so many of those people at the BCAM Coaches Clinic — coaches, friends, mentors, and people I’ve been fortunate enough to meet simply because of this game.

Then Saturday night was another reminder of exactly that.

Basketball is how @chrisscagnetti and I really got close when I started my basketball coaching journey his senior year at PCA and my first year out of high school. It’s been awesome to grow our friendship over the last 15 years and we always pick up our texting frequency around college basketball season! It was particularly cool getting to surprise him with a special FaceTime on his wedding day before I made the drive over to celebrate him and Marsha (check it out)

I would be remiss to not mention how special it was getting the “Sparkle Valley” crew together for the last wedding of the group. We miss these people dearly since moving to Boyne, which makes the times when everyone gets back together that much more special.

Hi, I’m Chelsea! And these are my family pictures! I’m the one in the dress, the one married to the hunk, the one who gets to mother these three adorable humans and the one who loves taking pictures.

If you’re new here, I thought it was probably time I showed my face and properly introduced myself.

I’m your Northern Michigan photographer who spends parts of my day behind the camera photographing, or at the computer editing, your beautiful faces. I specialize in families, high school seniors, and small business branding photography. And honestly, as a mom, I don’t think I could have dreamt up a better job.

When I’m not working, you can find me with my kids, at playgroup, the library or running errands. But honestly, if it’s during the summer- we’ll be at the beach with family, taking walks to @hortonbaygeneralstore1876 for candy sticks and coffee, and during the winter we get our wiggles out at @avalanche.bay water park. In my evenings you will find me reading a good book, watching a show with the Hubs, hanging with my girls at book club or getting serious about our puzzle competitions at @brandysharbortown.

*Weph* life moves pretty fast.

And maybe that’s why I love photography so much.

I get to freeze a little piece of your people, exactly as they are right now.

For pickle loving Leland, turning 5 is a BIG DILL! 🥒 And we were so happy to make it as big as possible for your birthday! Started with Mickey waffles in the morning, a picnic lunch at the sand dunes and back to the cottage for your favorite- pickle pizza! Leland, you are as zesty as the pickles you love. You are fun, and goofy, and your heart is so huge. You love your friends, but also aim to make everyone feel special. You have so much joy it’s contagious. We’ve loved watching you grow this year, you’ve changed from little to big right before our eyes. You are our whole world. Your presence lights up our children’s faces in a way that feels like Christmas morning. You bring so much steadiness and security to our home. You are strength and fun all wrapped into one, and I love the way you lead our family with both confidence and care. You challenge our kids to be brave, to take risks, and to do “dangerous” things carefully, and I know they are going to be incredibly confident because of you.

I love watching you be the most amazing dad to our crew. You play hard, love even harder, and give so much of yourself to our family every single day. You show our children that strength and tenderness can exist in the same person. You’re teaching our boys that emotions are nothing to hide from, that softness doesn’t make them weak, and you’re showing our girl that strength is absolutely a feminine quality too. She gets to grow up seeing what it looks like to be deeply loved, fiercely protected, and fully believed in. Schools out for summer! 🌞🙌🏻 Grayson had an incredible year in Kindergarten. He grew so much. He’s the sweetest friend. We’re still figuring out the whole learning thing, but that’s okay, he had an incredible teacher who loved pushing and encouraging him.

Here are a few school memories. End of the year bus parade. He tried Baseball and basketball this year, and was awesome at both! He loves singing, but maybe not performing? In his kindergarten Opera. He turned 7 and we brought him and his class a fun dessert snack. Halloween parade! Homecoming festivities, the football players read to his class, parade, watching the game from the press box with daddy. And the sweetest little tradition Boyne seniors do with the kindergarteners. They walk across the field to meet in the middle, showing the kindergarteners where they are going and reminding the seniors where they came from 😍 his first day of school. Oh Parker Anne, you are the fairest, sweetest, silliest, cutest, and most amiable of them all. My girl, I am so, so glad you joined our family one year ago, today. You are everything our hearts could desire. Your joy radiates, your snuggles melt, your compatibility is unmatched, and we are so incredibly lucky you are ours! Parker, I cannot imagine the world without you in it. You have made the perfect and necessary addition to our family. You roll with the punches, or the full body assaults, like a champ. You dance when the music hits just right. You squeal when you see your dad and your brothers, after a long day away at school. And you snuggle me like no baby ever has before. You crawl as fast as you can to get what your heart desires. You make everyone feel special, with your nose scrunches and your bashfulness. We are absolutely, out of this world, obsessed with you. Oh my sweet boy, you’re 7 today and I am blown away! You bring us so much joy, you make us so happy. You are funny and clever and creative. You are the most incredible big brother. You love with your whole body. I pray you will never be too big to snuggle me. I pray you never stop asking me to tickle your back at bedtime. I pray you never stop looking up to your dad. I pray you never stop hugging with your whole body. I pray you always enjoy your sibling, because they light up when you’re around. I am enjoying every toothless and big toothed smile you give me, every drawing you bring home being so proud of each one, every new friend you talk about, and every new character you become infatuated with (but honestly, maybe not stitch…).
