New top 10 city unlocked 🔓

Apparently there are around 1600 alleyways in Chicago. This is one of them.

I feel like this city is perfect in the summer and a nightmare in the winter.

Chicago Marathon - The race recap ⭐️
.
What a weekend, what a day, what an experience. Coming to Chicago, the goal was simple: Enjoy every second, and crush that beautiful and allusive 3 Hour barrier. ✨

Starting off, I was nervous, thrilled and terrified. Truly a pace I couldn’t even dream off a year ago, I now was going to hold for 42.2km (Or 26.2 Miles in Murica terms). A training block of 8/9 weeks filled with track sessions that humbled me and long runs that made me question how much I actually enjoyed running.

The start was smooth, good and unfortunate fast. I found some people to hang with, and hung onto their hips for the first 10km. Unfortunately I already had to pee in the first half of the race (and yes, I peed twice beforehand). Caught the pace back up to go through the 21.1km mark at 1:29:46 feeling smooth and only 16 second behind schedule.

Found the kindest Italian people who were also going for Sub-3 and we run together for a good 14km. Steady pace, feeling smooth and able to enjoy the 1.7 million people supporting in this mind-blowing city. Crossed the 30km mark with an average pace of 4:12min/km on schedule.

Then 36km, and the control that I had perfectly, started to slip away, on a bridge that dropped my pace from 4:15 to 4:25 and my legs not able to get that back into rhythm. A teeth grinding last 7km filled with sweat and tears (both of agony and pride). With 40km being my slowest km of the race I knew sub-3 was too much for the day. Crossing that finish time at 3:01:55, I am filled with pride, more hunger and a promise that this not where it ends.

To everyone that tracked me, supported me, and messaged. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are the energy that makes this world so wonderful. ❤️ by @matty__vv
