POSTS STORIES REELS

it’s been an amazing two years.

so much of it happened because I chose to show up. by @matty_christopherson

strength isn’t always about how much you can lift, how fast you can run, or how much you can endure.

it’s about showing up when the stakes are high. when things get uncomfortable. when life doesn’t go according to plan.

showing up for your friends. for your family. for the people who count on you. and perhaps most importantly, showing up for yourself.

you won’t always feel motivated. you won’t always have the answers. you some days, showing up will be the hardest thing you do.

but you get to decide whether you show up or not.

that’s strength.

if you’re in NYC this weekend, go check out @strongnewyork 💪

New York City this past weekend was one of the best experiences of my life.

Who would have thought we’d pull off two @therunclubhouse NYC Marathon activations while filming more than 20 Clubhouse Radio episodes on the streets of SoHo.

@joeholder said it best: The narrative of the experience should not outweigh the experience itself.

And what an experience it was.

Thank you to everyone who made it so magical. by @matty_christopherson

Clubhouse Radio Ep 023 with @joeholder 🎙️

Joe Holder reflects on what makes the New York City running culture so unique and reminds us to keep the experience of running the main thing.

Today, I ran the @nycmarathon. And it went nothing like I expected.

Before I tell you about the kind of human @miahmagsino is, let me tell you what happened.

I came into today chasing a sub-3-hour marathon. My training suggested 2:53 was within reach. I crossed the halfway point under 1:30, right on track.

Until I wasn’t.

Around mile 16, full-body cramps set in. Back, biceps, calves, quads. Everything. I was forced to stop and walk much of the next seven miles. I’ve run ultramarathons and experienced nothing quite like this.

Then came Miah.

We’d connected through the running community online but had never met in person.

“Come on bro, I got you. Let’s finish together.”

For the final three miles, Miah stayed by my side. I kept telling him to go ahead. He refused. I’ll never forget that.

I crossed the finish line in 3:47:54. Far from the time I’d trained for. And I’m proud of it.

Because that’s sport. You put in the work, show up prepared, give everything you’ve got and sometimes things don’t go your way. I had every reason to be disappointed. But I’m not.

I didn’t hit my goal. I finished the job.

And somewhere along those final miles, I was reminded of something I’ve believed for a long time.

Running was never a solo sport. It’s rooted in community.

To Miah, thank you, dude. You showed me what that really means today.

To every friend who yelled my name across all five boroughs, I heard you. And to my incredible cheering squad @sara.cathcart @annacathcart @oliviakasumi ❤️

It was also an honor to run for @releaserecoveryfoundation. If you’d like to support their mission, the donation link remains in my bio. Every dollar matters.

New York, you really are something special.
