Its been pretty much a year since Amy, Ira, and I arrived in Richmond. You never really know what to expect when you move somewhere new and in my case someplace on the opposite end of the country. But Richmond has been good to our little family. So thank you to everyone who has welcomed us, hung with us, invited us out, gone to a show and made us not feel like complete strangers. Y’all have made it feel like home really fast. And a million thanks to everyone who has gotten tattooed over that span. The only thing I knew about Richmond before showing up is that it was a good tattoo city. Like, there are some serious crushers making some heavy tattoos in such a small area. With so much good tattooing going on I’m humbled that y’all showed up for a relative stranger. Thank you for supporting Amy, me, and our family and for being so god damn nice. Also, a thanks to everyone @salvationtattoo for being so excruciatingly cool and welcoming and for listening to my endless stories. Lastly I know us folks from the West aren’t known for punctuality and commitment and that doesn’t really jive with East Coast/Southern sensibilities but I’ll work on it. I wouldn’t hold your breath though. All the love to all the people. Richmond is cool. Tattooing rules. taken in Richmond, Virginia by @matty_esswein

One from @kaiserstadt_tattoo_expo_aachen - Thank you to everyone who kept me so busy that I stayed pinned to my booth and to those who swung by to make jokes with me. It was great seeing so many friends old and new. I feel pretty stoked knowing that there’s tons of pure magic left in tattooing. Thank you @andreas_coenen for putting together such an amazing group of tattooers and people. I’m truly humbled and extremely grateful to have taken part. The world is a pretty rad place, y’all. You just have to put down your phone and go be in it. ‘Til next time✌🏼 by @matty_esswein

Things get weird for better or worse. Not all ideas are zingers but sometimes you have to go with it and see what you learn. I learned a lot from this one. by @matty_esswein
