Hey, we’re Matt & Hayley — the people behind Mat Wizard!

We both train Jiu-Jitsu, so we understand first-hand just how important good hygiene is.

That’s a big part of why we started Mat Wizard, to bring a specialist approach to combat sports mat cleaning and help raise the standard of hygiene across gyms and academies.
Our aim is simple: cleaner mats, safer training environments and a more consistent standard of hygiene across the combat sports community. 💙🥋

Follow @matwizard_uk and come along for the journey!

Looks clean… but is it?

At Mat Wizard, we don’t just clean the mats — we verify the result.

Because in combat sports, “looks clean” isn’t enough.

You’ve seen Matt on the machine… now Hayley’s turn 😂

Putting the Mat Wizard scrubber to work and giving the mats a proper deep clean.

There’s something seriously satisfying about watching it glide over the surface and do its thing!

What looks clean can still be hiding a lot.

Sweat, dead skin, hair, dust and everyday build-up can settle into textured mats and high-traffic areas — especially where regular cleaning doesn’t always reach.
That’s why Mat Wizard goes further than surface appearance.

Because clean-looking mats and verified clean mats aren’t always the same thing.

Steam cleaning vs Mat Wizard

Steam cleaning can be useful on the right surfaces, but combat-sports mats aren’t all built the same, and heat/moisture may not suit every construction.

That’s why Mat Wizard uses a multi-stage process designed around combat-sports mat cleaning:

🧹 Vacuum
🧼 Machine scrub
💧 Recover dirty solution
🦠 Disinfect using the correct product & contact time
🧪 Verify with ATP testing and additional checks
Because for us, clean-looking isn’t enough.

Don’t just clean it. Verify it.

MAT WIZARD MYTHBUSTERS # 1

“If the mats look clean, they ARE clean.”
❌ MYTH BUSTED.

These mats looked pretty clean… until we deep cleaned them.

The truth is, appearance alone doesn’t tell you how effectively a surface has been cleaned — which is why Mat Wizard goes beyond what you can see.

Got a combat-sports mat cleaning myth you want us to bust next?

Your face spends a LOT of time here… 👀

Sweat. Feet. Faces. Repeat.

Maybe the mats deserve a proper deep clean too.

We’re excited to be working with LabTek Services to introduce ATP testing into the Mat Wizard cleaning process. 🥋

ATP testing gives us a measurable indication of organic contamination on the mat surface — allowing us to compare cleanliness before and after cleaning, rather than relying on how clean a mat looks.

Because when it comes to combat sports hygiene, clean shouldn’t just be something you can see.

BJJ PEOPLE… BE HONEST! 👀

What’s the worst hygiene offence you’ve ever witnessed at training? 😂

Smelly gis? 🤢 Bare feet in the toilets? 🚽 Long nails? 😬

Training when you definitely shouldn’t be? 👀

No names. No academies. 😂

Drop yours in the comments 👇 — we want to hear the worst!

This is just a couple of days…

Hair, dust and debris naturally collect around the edges of busy mats — exactly the areas that can easily get missed during everyday cleaning.

It’s all in the detail. 🧙‍♂️🥋

Go check the edges of your mats… what did you find? 👀
