Enzo and I have held both deep sorrow and uncovered wells of joy all at once these last few weeks. It’s true that duality exists. Holding two opposite emotional all at once is a thing, and in short, it’s so weird.

During one of the busiest weeks of my career, we lost our lolo. All the nerves I had about work suddenly felt so silly. Nothing mattered anymore except to rally around my family and be able to properly remember him and hold space for Enzo to grieve and process however he sees fit.

I made a quick decision to cancel Mother’s Day launch, and have a team of beloved and trusted florists help cover about 6 weddings for me. They inconvenienced themselves so I could catch a flight to Manila, and mob to Pampanga just hours before the funeral was about to start. I’m wrecked (in the type of way that makes you cry tears of joy). I didn’t know I could be covered with so much kindness by this team of florist friends. Owning a business proposes the temptation to partner with the lie that it’s all on me and I have to do everything myself. My experience these last few weeks has taken that lie and broken any leg it had to stand on. Not just that, but it’s prepared a way for me to delegate and grow mauve roots to something even bigger than me moving forward. Beauty from the ashes. ♥️

With the grief, also came beautiful opportunity to fly 7000 miles to see family and a home we haven’t embraced in many years. I think this was a tender way of divinity showing up…It sounds like God to me, that the blow of a loss would receive the joyful salve of what it feels like to go home to family after years away. In an instant, we were met with community and love we haven’t tapped into in so long.

There’s something about family time that is good for the soul: you spend all day talking and catching up, figuring out you have similar interests despite the years since you last saw each other. One day @diorelalala showed up to coffee wearing the same pair of sneakers I have tattooed on my forearm. It’s funny how land and time don’t always have the right to break family ties and interests unless we let them. taken in Pampanga, Philippines by @mauveroots
