POSTS STORIES REELS

✨ A new year deserves a new re-introduction. (I know it’s coming a bit late, lol. 🌝)

I’m Maven. Just a girl who loves getting lost in books and living a hundred lives in the process. 📚🤍

I read at least 10 pages a day (more when life allows, because… life).

This space is where I share honest reviews, book recommendations, booksta tips, and all things bookish. No pressure, just good vibes.

Also… I’m currently among the top #5 best reviewers on Goodreads, which still feels a little unreal.

If you love getting lost in books too, I think you’ll like it here.

Let’s be book friends. 📖✨

Sometimes I DNF a book and feel like I failed a test. But reading shouldn’t feel like punishment.

What makes you DNF immediately?

April snuck in so quietly… and I kind of loved that. I’m just here, looking at my books like… okay, let’s try this again 🌝

I’m not even trying to read more this month. I just want to enjoy what I pick up.

Less forcing myself through books I’m not feeling. More choosing what actually fits my mood. Even if that means rereading, taking breaks, or reading super slow.

I just want April to feel easy when it comes to reading (and everything else in between.) 🌹

Question of the day: what book are you starting (or hoping to start) this April?

I absolutely judge books by their covers. The cover designers deserve their credit.

Just one more chapter.” Next thing I know it’s 2am and I’m emotionally attached to fictional people.

Most times, I don’t choose books. My mood does. And my mood can be quite.. uhmm.. unpredictable.

BOOK REVIEW

One of my favorite things about memoirs is how they let you experience a place through someone’s lived reality, and From Tea to Coffee does exactly that, drawing me in with its personal portrayal of life and people in China.

While the story unfolds during the Cultural Revolution, one of the aspects I enjoyed most was the glimpse into everyday Chinese life. From rural traditions and local customs to the warmth of shared meals and the contrast between city and countryside, the cultural details made the memoir feel incredibly immersive to me. It didn’t simply read like a history lesson; it felt like listening to someone recount a chapter of their life with honesty and reflection.

If you enjoy memoirs that transport you to another culture while being retrospective, this one is worth adding to your reading list.

Have you ever read a memoir that taught you about a culture you knew very little about? 📚

Finishing a really good book feels illegal. Like… what do you mean I have to move on with my life now?

How do you recover from a book hangover? by @maven_reads

My TBR and I have a complicated relationship. I add 5 books. I read 1. I add 7 more. Sometimes I’m able to just stick to my TBR for a while, sometimes I don’t. Lol.

Are you actually reading your TBR… or just curating it?

My February reading wrap-up. 28 short books by Black authors.

I moved between sci-fi, folklore, feminism, short stories, and plays. I revisited voices like Zora Neale Hurston and Chinua Achebe.

Phew. It was a rollercoaster ride. I’m ending the month feeling grateful, stretched, and very aware of how wide and layered Black storytelling is.

📖 ARC REVIEW
The Rain I Couldn’t Let You Walk In by Kayne Ellis

Books have a storytelling element․
This one feels like reading someone’s heartbeat․

The Rain I Couldn’t Let You Walk In is an autobiographical book that deals with loneliness, online intimacy, depression, identity and the oddness of falling in love through a screen․

It follows a nineteen-year-old boy who finds escapism from his oppressive home life in logic, math, and the art of being unfeeling until the day he receives a simple “hi” on Discord․

What sets this book apart, however, is not the romance․

It’s the psychological depth․

The author writes about depression not as drama, but as seepage․ As something quiet․ Lingering․ Logical․ That internal monologue is painfully familiar, especially to anyone who has perfected the art of the “I’m fine” while falling apart․

And then comes Elena․

Those digital conversations feel like how people really communicate these days: messy, playful, awkward, intense․ The banter, the jealousy, the misunderstandings, face reveal apocalypse: these are the hooks of modern relationships․ Through typing bubbles․ Through time zones․ Through late-night vulnerability․

What stood out to me was how the book contrasts logic (chess, math, deduction) and emotion (jealousy, attachment, insecurity) and the way screens become both shield and doorway․ It reads like someone trying to understand their own heart in real time․

And sometimes, that’s the most honest kind of story․

It’s not a fast-paced, plot-driven book․
It’s reflective․ Introspective․ Almost diary-like․

If you enjoy:

🔻Slow-burn emotional development
🔻Digital-era love stories
🔻Psychological depth
🔻Character-driven narratives

You’ll like this.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Final thoughts: It’s tender and flawed․ A story about connection and the vulnerability of letting someone in to see you․
