Went to check out Martinez roof for the first time today with @sharkjon1 and managed to make the most of a perfectly timed send breeze with a flash of Cataclysm’s Edge. Legend has it this one was flash FA’d so I’m feeling especially stoked to have followed suit ⚡️

ROLL CALL ahead of Wednesday’s @milkboyphilly show continues with lead guitarist extraordinaire @max_blauer

We went through a couple lead guitarists in the first few months of the band when Max reached out to me. I’d sold him a @schiemannguitars a year or so before, and we kept in touch. He said he was interested in being in the band, and despite moving up to NY, he’s thankfully still interested!

Hometown: Wayne, PA
Currently: Hudson Valley, NY
Favorite food: anything homemade
Surprising factoid: queer AF 🌈
Favorite Loose Panic song: Don’t Give Up This Ship

We’ll be playing Max’s favorite (and unreleased!) song at MilkBoy this Wednesday when we open for @pumpactionmusic

What Rhymes With Arete V9

This was the first hard boulder I did when I moved to the Gunks so I’m especially happy to have been able to repeat it today despite the heat 🥵

I might like the music and lyric video I made for Ancora as much as I like the song itself

It’s produced in the style of a #silentfilm using scenes from the 1920 film Way Down East starring Lillian Gish

Link in bio to the full video on YouTube

I hope you enjoy it

Second Before Awakening ⌛️ 😴 (V10/7C+)

Just like that, #2 of my Gunks list for this season, finished and throughly enjoyed!!!

I watched @andywsalo (my gunks idol growing up) send this boulder in my favorite climbing movie of all time, Dosage 5, in the “Secrets of the East” segment. This was the first time I had seen my home crag, The Gunks in a climbing DVD.

So, not only was I mind-blown by this incredible feature and the enchanting style that the video was shot in, but I also wanted to rise to the level of climbing movie stars and do so at the climbing area I loved most!

Fun Fact (I kept count as a kid), between the ages of 15 and 18, I watched Dosage 5 a total of 22 times… You could say I was obsessed; but at least I can quote every line hahaha

The song on this video is a tribute to the fantastic soundtrack of the film, as it’s one of my favorite songs that plays in the movie. Bonus if you know which segment it’s from!

Big thanks to @max_blauer and Justin for questing out to this one and being down for some laughs and try hard!

Ahhhhh I LOVE THE GUNKS!

I’ll forever live in wonder of this: although the odds of finding each other were infinitesimal there is no possible world where we don’t.

I’m engaged y’all!!!

“Sparrowhawk” first ascent 💎

This is my best quality FA to date. I’m stoked to have finished off this project in my first session back on it after it slipped through my fingers (literally) last season. a nice flowy sequence down low gives way to an attention grabbing crux - a huge toss to a good incut edge off of a rounded left crimp and a tricky right sloper. I love boulders that are progressively difficult and culminate in a last move crux. The process on these types of lines is mentally challenging but they’re especially rewarding. I also happen to suffer from excessively seepy fingertips so the crux felt a lot harder from the start than it did in isolation due to loss of chalk.

Sparrowhawk clocks in somewhere around V9-10

I came up with the name as I hiked in and when I sent I found a feather on top of the boulder! solo sesh magic ✨ 🍁 🪶 by @max_blauer
