Why I „suck“ at marketing myself:

Picking up my first camera in 2016 somehow turned into a career that now flies me around the world filming superyachts.

But for the longest time, I shared almost none of it.

Partly due to imposter syndrome. But also because I’ve always cringed at curated “look at my life” IG feeds.

I never wanted to be that guy.

However after a few honest conversations (shoutout @tomnoske ), my perspective shifted, and this year I will make an effort to post more.

So this reel is a TL;DR of the last 5 years.

What most people don’t see behind those highlights is the 10 years of quiet work, taking big risks, and sacrificing a major part of my twenties being “locked in my room”.

Why?

Because ever since middle school, all I’ve ever wanted in my career is a job I love.

Growing up in a working-class family, all I saw were adults exhausted from jobs they hated. Night shifts. Weekends gone. Constant stress.

To me, working sounded like a life sentence.

After high school in 2016, my only goal was simple: Find work I enjoy. I didn’t even care about the money.

The very first (and last) 9-to-5 job I took was a seasonal 3-month studentjob.

It turned out to be everything I feared.

Getting up at 5am in the morning,

taking a bus full of people with grim faces

and spending 8 hours a day „taking inventory”, aka counting books.

My pay: 9€/hour

But that experience pushed me to take the first real risk of my life:

Spending half of my first paycheck on a DJI Phantom 3 drone.

Best decision I ever made.
That drone got me into university and most importantly, taught me a skill that today gets me flown out all over the world to shoot yachts in places I used to only see on YouTube.

One of the people who unknowingly started this entire path was someone I used to watch back in 2016.
@jonolsson1 I used to binge his Vlog and @benjaminortega s legendary edits.

Years later, when I lived in Stockholm, I ended up meeting both of them and thanking them in person. A pretty surreal full-circle moment.

Today, I get up at 5am. Not because I have to but because I’m genuinely excited for my work.To me, thats worth more than millions. taken in Monaco - Monte Carlo by @max_malth

Having a loved one die for most people is a wake up call.

A call to finally persuade their dreams, quit the job they hate, start being healthy, stop smoking or what ever else comes to mind.

To me, fortunately, it was just a reminder and proof that I am doing everything right by taking risks and sometimes painfully failing while chasing my dream life.

A sign that if I continue to be disciplined, eat healthy, dont drink or smoke I will one day be rewarded by seeing my own grandchildren grow up and build incredible lifes for themselves.

I think thats a point that many people don’t really think off until it is too late for them.

If you read this far you might want to consider this today. Also stop overthinking and just do what you want already. Cheers by @max_malth

When I was in my first semester in university we were asked: „what is your goal after finishing here?“ and I said „ Id like to work in my own business and be able to work remotely“ I had no idea how I might make that possible and it seemed very hard to attain.
