Max went on her first real road trip from Northern California to Mesa/Phoenix, Arizona right after reaching the 10k milestone! She handled the drive like a champ and experienced a lot of “firsts”.

Unfortunately, including her first break-in and attempted wheel-napping in AZ. 😫 Thanks to all my #broncofriends suggestions of semi-custom locking nuts… they weren’t able to. Also thankfully, these were “professional” wheel stealers and they didn’t care about anything else in the car and left my son’s iPad alone.

They were also nice enough to leave the nuts they had removed, right next to wheel, so I didn’t have to replace those too… however, they weren’t nice enough to not break my window (in attempt to find the locking nut key. HINT: don’t put it in your glovebox or center console!!!)

Grateful to good friends in AZ who stored Max in a locked garage until the window could be replaced (and lent us one of their cars)… because of course it was a holiday weekend. 🤦🏻‍♀️

One more tip: having @kavaca #ppf film on the windows saved the front seat from being covered in glass because almost all of it stuck to the film!

Thankfully @csaainsurancegroup covered 100% of the window replacement, and said they would include replacing the PPF/tint because it was pre-existing to the broken window.

Max has really been living her best life in California. She made her first road trip to the foothills of Yosemite a couple of weeks ago. First time driving more than 50 miles in one trip! Not an island girl anymore!

It’s been a minute or five.

Guess who landed in California??? When it started to look like I’d be in CA 75-80% of the time, it was time to ship my big girl halfway across the ocean. I’m hanging onto my Hawai’i 🌈 plates as long as possible (till Dec when my registration expires). Guess we’re #westcoastgurls now. 🥹

(Fun fact, those cargo cranes in the back ground were the inspiration for George Lucas’ AT-ATs in Star Wars.)

Max’s gritty city lewk ✨

Three weeks at home felt like three minutes. It included a trip to the Big Island for my kid’s sporting event, a trip to Maui for a meeting, and my college son home from spring break for a week with his partner.

Many of you have no doubt heard about the wildfires that decimated parts of Maui. While I live on another island, I spent a lot of time as a kid on Maui with family/friends, so it is an island very near to my heart. And in Hawai’i, any major events that affect one island, affects us all.

I have been busy helping to organize the mental health/crisis support response at the state level; apologies to anyone who has reached out to check in for the delay!

If you want to be able to help, right now, monetary donations are what’s needed most. The outpouring of love from all islands and the continent have resulted in a huge surplus of material goods that have no way of being distributed or disposed of (it is a small island, after all). There are a lot of charities and “charities,” that make it hard to figure out what’s legit and what’s not.

Hawai’i Community Foundation is a fantastic org that was founded in Hawai’i for the people of Hawai’i over 100 years ago. @hawaiicommunityfoundation

Another page that has been aggregating resources is @ainamomona

Some people would prefer to donate to families directly via Venmo or GoFundMe. Here is a good page for that. @lahaina_ohana_venmo (disclaimer, this is run by community members who have their own vetting process)

Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much)for your kōkua (help)!

💗 These photos are of Lāhainā a couple months ago, when we were visiting friends/family for my husband’s birthday. 💗
