This is about mental health!

So I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety in January 2019. It took some pretty traumatic experiences to reach that point, but opening up, talking and being honest with my mates, family and myself is the best thing I’ve done.

And we’re in lockdown again which is fun!

I will be the first to admit that I don’t hate lockdowns - in fact as someone who thoroughly enjoys their own company I was actually able to prioritise my mental well-being and enjoy the alone time last year, along with spending some seriously good time with my folks after spending the last 10 years living in different countries from each other.
However this current one seems like a bit of a kick in the proverbial, and last week I found myself back at the bottom of the barrel, with this outrageous sense of homesickness, despite sitting in my living room. With that I made the call to go back into therapy, which again, one of the best decisions I have made, and now hopefully I’m ready for whatever this new lockdown throws at me.

If you’re someone who like me has that little chemical imbalance upstairs, and is feeling like the waves are just getting a little bit too big for you - just know you aren’t alone there, and if you do want or need someone to talk to because you do feel yourself drowning a bit, I’m here: 1) because I want to listen and talk about something that is so prevalent amongst boys and girls around my age, and 2) I’m in lockdown with my sister and her husband and I have nothing else to do.

This is a post more out of hope that someone who might be having a shit one reads it and decides to talk, because it has been 2 years since I decided to, and while I have some bloody terrible days (last Friday might have been the longest day of my life), it’s the best thing I ever did, and I’m a better person for it. And without that I don’t know if I would have made it through last year, which is giving me confidence that this current one is just a rock in my mental shoe.
