ART OF MY LIFE

Winning the Art of Italicus competition had been an obsession of mine ever since I discovered it back in 2021.

That year, I didn’t make it to the final. And after that, life kept finding ways to stop me from taking part. But this time, I knew I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by no matter what.

And there I was, in the UK final in @thedonovanbar London, shaving off half of my beard and painting half of my face to embody Frida.

I won. Against all odds.

And it’s ok that I was able to perform in the global final, Im not a big fan of repeating myself anyways. 😎

That’s how I’ll keep moving forward towards my goals, no matter how many obstacles stand in my way.

CLIMBED TO THE VERY TOP OF MOUNT FUJI

Japan has always fascinated and attracted me, from the Nintendo games I played as a teenager, to the films of Hayao Miyazaki, to my love for sake and tea. It’s a country that can throw you into a gentle melancholy, like in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation, or bring you serene happiness for no apparent reason, as in Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days. A land of great traditions and history, with both sorrow and admiration woven into its spirit.

By chance, I managed to get a Japanese visa, but only during the off-season, in the hottest part of the year. It turned out that this is precisely when you can climb one of the country’s most iconic symbols: Mount Fuji. The visa queue was long, but an unexpected opening allowed me to apply in time. Reservations for mountain huts at the 8th station open in May and sell out immediately, yet just before my trip, a single spot became available for my exact dates. That was it - I was going.
It was a true challenge. I remember, after a couple of hours of climbing at a fast pace (our bus broke down on the way to the trailhead, so I started later than planned), I saw the light of a hut and thought, “Hopefully, that’s mine.” But it wasn’t - mine was the fourth one after that. Another hour of climbing.
The night was rough - little sleep, thin air, and wet clothes. But in the morning, I told myself: “Now or never.” At the summit, the wind was howling at 140 km/h, rain was pouring, fog surrounded everything, and the temperature was only +5°C. I warmed myself as best I could, my fingers turned blue, but I made it.

I reached the Well of Wishes, the highest point of Mount Fuji, without even knowing it existed. Now, 100 Kazakh tenge lie there, guarding my wish. The descent was also tough; the weather barely changed, though it grew warmer with every step. What kept me going was the warmth inside -the realization that I had done it.

I know I will return to Japan many more times to explore this fascinating country. But my first visit, crowned with the climb to the top of Mount Fuji, will stay with me forever. 🗻🗻🗻 taken in Mount Fuji by @max_yukhno

FORTUNATE GATHERING

I spent three months in London, but this time I didn’t manage to put down roots.

I was trying to catch luck by the tail, and even though, at the time, it felt like I hadn’t quite managed to do it - I realised that luck had actually been right there beside me all along.

It was there, letting me enjoy every moment, every little leaf, every ray of sunshine, every smile and every opportunity.

The important thing is not to call yourself Lucky, but to be it.

What’s next? We’ll see. For now, I’m just replaying in my head how fucking great it all was, even when it was insanely difficult.

Cheers, mate, innit? 🇬🇧 by @max_yukhno

OUT STANDING

Himitsu bar recently won two pins @thepinnacleguide recognition. I’m happy that the place I made the menu, concept, cocktail and hospitality system and even the name got the recognition exactly for all those things!

Congrats to my bar team at that time, we actually did a cool thing!

P.s. Mr @cocktailman how soon is the menu review by the way? by @max_yukhno

MEMORABLE
This year has been incredibly full of events, meetings, and travels.
🇷🇸🇦🇪🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇦🇿🇹🇭🇬🇪🇺🇿🇰🇿(🇰🇷)🇯🇵🇲🇳🇲🇦🇹🇷🇮🇳
There was a lot of beautiful and good moments, and there were also terrible and difficult ones, all of which I’ve turned into memories and experience that will stay with me forever.

I started the year by meeting Aldar and Alisa, only to meet them again a few months later — first in Serbia, and then in Thailand.
I’ve celebrated Serbian Christmas, then I flew to Dubai for a new job, traveled to London and Scotland, where I celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and climbed Arthur’s Seat.

There were countless guest shifts in Dubai, the launch of a cocktail menu at Shanghai Me that later made its way to London, a Peggy Gou concert, a trip to Baku, an amazing time in Bangkok (including trying a scorpion), wine in Tbilisi, meeting friends in Sochi, and long walks in Krasnodar.

I flew to Uzbekistan for a guest shift and reunited with old friends there, then went to Kazakhstan for a guest shift at Temple Bar, where I found new friends.
I spent more than a full day at Seoul Airport — surprisingly great — made it to Japan, climbed Mount Fuji, drank beer in Mongolia, worked a guest shift at the best bar in Russia - Humble, and saw Lake Baikal.

I hosted a guest shift and a masterclass in Vladimir, where I met many friends, later made wine in the city center and drank wine in the city center.
I reunited with my music band after ten years. We even managed to rehearse a couple of times.
I went to Morgan Jay’s stand-up show in Dubai, finally relocated, received my work visa, walked around Istanbul, attended a Radiohead concert, traveled to Morocco to see Yassin & Ismi, saw a Banksy piece, randomly ended up in Sharjah with new acquaintances, and visited Mumbai for a guest shift with an incredible view.

And now I’m welcoming the New Year in my hometown.

Big plans for the next year, but it will be what it will be.
Thank you to everyone who was part of this year.

ROOTS

In Astana, animism hides in plain sight. The Baiterek monument isn’t just a landmark - it’s the World Tree. Roots in the underworld, trunk on earth, crown in the sky. Spirits move through it, just like in old shamanic cosmology. The golden egg of Samruk in its branches? That’s the sun, life-force, the soul of the steppe.

Animism sees no line between people, spirits, and nature and Astana built its icon on that truth.

And if you want to taste it, step into @temple.kz . It feels like a ritual spot: fire, music, drinks echoes of the old belief that every element carries a spirit.

TEMPLE OF MY HEART
Two friends from the same hometown @thereala3a @bakenovilyas decided to open a bar. Inspired by an idea, driven by a dream and they made it real.
They even brought a massive tree root from their home city and hung it above the bar counter.
They built the design themselves, created the concept from scratch, and handcrafted one of the smartest and most comfortable cocktail labs I’ve ever seen.
Together with like-minded souls, they gave life to @temple.kz a mysterious, stylish bar where every guest gets a warm conversation, a genuine “how are you,” and a feeling of being truly welcome.
I was lucky enough to join them for a guest shift and spend five amazing days in the beautiful city of Astana.
We explored the city, tried local food (😉), drank way too much limoncello, and laughed a lot.
I even tried kumis for the first time and to my surprise, it tasted like natural wine.

Thank you for the hospitality.
And to my international friends - if you’re ever in Astana, Temple is a must-visit.
