Growth happens when you see what’s possible through others 💯 That’s the power of mentorship, representation, and community in oral surgery and in life. @maxfacejourney @elianeortizelia

In honor of Match Day (and my new IG handle 💀🛠️)

The day I matched was easily one of the top 3 best days of my life.

As I opened that email, it felt like my life flashed in front of me:
Dental school in Venezuela, lots of trauma leaving everything behind, working like a dog, some more trauma, advanced standing in UCLA, many many exams, people telling me it was impossible, not matching the first time, moving across the country, Non-cat year, endless trauma call nights and lack of sleep..

And then, just like that January 17th 2025 at 8:30 am I get an email
“Congratulations, you have matched.”
4 years at Harbor UCLA OMFS.
My #1 choice.

I sobbed for 20 min, I thought, this right here IS MY DREAM!

Of course, my worth was not defined by that moment, plus my path was not straightforward as an international applicant.

But that day felt like my effort was finally seen.

Also very thankful to have the best husband and human being by my side, he has seen the best and the worst of me and somehow continues to bet on me 🫶🏽

I don’t know what the future holds, but I’ll keep showing up every day for the life (God and) I promised myself.

Grateful for this journey 🫶🏽🛠️💀
Stay for more of this crazy ride.

Happy Women’s Day.
Today I’m reflecting on my journey and honoring all the fierce women who supported me along the way so I could become a surgeon.
I will never forget what you did for me, and I promise to pave the way for many more 🫀
PGY-1 almost done!
