Pimienta opens its catalogue with Becoming, a single by Max von der Goltz that treats simplicity not as reduction, but as a way of holding feeling in concentrated form. Written and produced in a single afternoon in September 2024, the track belongs to that rare category of pieces that do not develop through accumulation so much as through recognition. What first appears as a sketch reveals itself, on revisiting, as something already complete in its internal logic.

Recorded in one take with a phone, an SM57 and a Prophet-5, Becoming preserves the conditions of its making with unusual clarity. Rather than being polished into neutrality, the track stays close to its source, allowing presence, limitation and immediacy to become part of its structure. Max works with a restrained set of gestures, drawing out an emotional range through repetition, sustain and tonal drift.

Suspended between states, Becoming holds change, growth and beauty in the same frame, unfolding with a measured openness rather than dramatic rupture or resolution. As Pimienta’s first release, it sets a precise point of departure: a catalogue oriented towards sonic intimacy, spatial presence and carefully held tension.

An excerpt from Becoming by Max von der Goltz.

Written and produced in a single afternoon in September 2024, the track was recorded in one take with a phone, an SM57 and a Prophet-5. Returning to it later, Max discovered a sense of clarity in the piece that had already been there from the beginning.

hi friends, today i'm releasing my debut record "feels like i've been here before".
i put the music together in the summer of 2020 and it really helped me to get through the year and the stuff i was dealing with at the time. it means a lot to me to put this out and i hope that some of you can enjoy it. i'm excited to share it with you today. lay down or go outside when you listen :)
