Hurricane Erin delivered good waves to New England, but also drama… this particular small sailboat was at the centerstage of this fickle surf spot that turned on during that faithful weekend of August, and tragedy was narrowly avoided, thanks to a crew of rescue swimmers who went in to save the boater in distress. Plenty of rumours about the boater’s actions (or lack of) leading to this precarious situation, and most of us actually thought the boat was empty by the time it drifted across the bay and performed the most spectacular ‘’floater’’ ever witnessed, only to end up perched on the rocks and battered like a piece of driftwood. I accidentally captured the exact same moment than another (real this one) photographer, look at how the shadows and angles match almost perfectly… 🤯#surf #bigwaves #highsurf #sailing #maine #surfinusa #surfer #surfboard #boatwreck by @maxime1983

Finally made this one happen, done and out in the water. Big thanks to the entire crew @grainsurfboards for sharing their incredible knowledge and talent, as well as their shed and tools, all without which this would have been nearly impossible for me@to complete on my own. I take tremendous pride in having had the courage to undertake this challenge and get myself out in the workshop at a difficult moment in my life. Met awesome people ( the team and guests alike), gained self-confidence and skills that will serve me well beyond the shaping bay, and now I have an epic sustainable dream machine to shred some waves on and the will to build more.Special thanks to @pheeelgood for dragging me in this adventure from start to finish, and and o my lovely girlfriend @thisilk for believing in me and offering me this incredible gift for my 40th birthday. Yesterday was a good day, had the opportunity to be part of the first heat of the mens group at La Classique Vague à Guy. Two of the three other guys in my heat finished on the podium, so needless to say I didn’t win, but I am grateful to have been invited to participate in that amazing event. Thanks everyone who encouraged me to overcome my fears and take part in a surfing competition for the first time, at age 40…Big thanks to the organizers, volunteers, sponsors and all the riders for the great show you put on, and thanks to the crowd who came in masses to support the athletes, and the media who gave us a voice and a chance to show the world that we can actually surf in Montreal, and that some of us are pretty darn good to say the least. Congrats to the winners of both the mens and the womens teams, you all deserve this honour and we are proud of you all! Pre-competition practice. I hadn’t longboarded for a while, and was offered a place in the Classique Vague à Guy 3 days before. Never been less ready for Fall in my entire life! It seems that a slower living pace isn’t compatible with Northern climates… you always have to prepare for what’s next and the seasons pressure you into that (never mind our capitalist ways).
