We are extremely excited and grateful to announce our commitment to run at Wake Forest!

First and foremost, we want to thank God for His guidance and all of His blessings. Thank you to our parents for being so supportive and caring. Thank you to our coaches Emry, Tarragh, and Allison for all they have done to get us to where we are today, we couldn’t have done it without them. We also want to thank our wonderful teammates for pushing us and being there with us every step of the way. Next, we want to thank all of the people who have supported us and cheered for us along our journey. Lastly, thank you Coach Hayes and Coach Hazouri for having faith in us and providing us with an amazing opportunity!

This was not the story I was expecting to tell after the most interesting and fun time of my life has wrapped up. What started with a family vacation to Mexico turned into an unexpected injury that took me out from running for two weeks. Right when I was better, I was hit with an extremely bad illness that stuck me in bed with 105 degree fevers for a week straight. By the end of that, I felt weak, losing close to 15 pounds, and had trouble breathing on my runs. During my week long tenure in my bed, I kept asking God, “why me?” It took me a long time to realize that I should be grateful for all the little things people like to take for granted. The ability to go for runs, to see my friends and family, to be able to eat without feeling sick, the ability to sleep soundly and without pain, all seemed to be normal for anyone to have yet I had none of it. I became so grateful for everything I overlooked and for all the little things people deem natural blessings. The next thing I learned was that God has a plan for everyone and you need to have faith in that plan. I started worrying only about the things I could control and let God handle all else above me. It was hard taking on this new approach to my return to the track. I was underperforming my goals every meet I ran in, and it was extremely hard for me mentally to go from the highs of the xc season to where I was now. But, through the highs and lows, I put my faith in God and believed everything would be alright. I learned to live my life with this in mind: what punishments of God are not truly gifts?

The season is now finished, and I was able to win state in the 3200, finish 9th in the Nationals 5k, runner-up in the Indoor Nationals 4 by mile, and 6th at the Nike Outdoor Nationals 3000. I’m so grateful for all the wonderful people who have helped me along the way, especially my coaches Emry and Allison, my parents, and teammates. Thank you God for all the blessings and lessons you have taught me. Thank you Coeur d’ Alene high school for the best four years I could’ve asked for

“But there are some things that you cannot be sure of. You must take a chance. If you wait for perfect weather, you will never plant your seeds. If you are afraid that every cloud will bring rain, you will never harvest your crops.“ ~ Ecclesiastes 11:4

Not the greatest way to end my high school career, but nothing to be disappointed about. There have been so many great moments I’ll never forget. I’m so thankful for all of my teammates, coaches, friends, and family that helped me throughout my journey. Next time running xc will be as a deac🎩 by @maximus.cervi

Not just for the hometown, but for all of Idaho 🥔🫶

@maximus.cervi knew the importance of what he and the North Idaho XC boys did last year after winning #NXR Northwest, becoming the first boys team from Idaho to qualify for #NXN.

Can they do it again on Saturday in Boise?!

Check out what else Max had to say ahead of the second weekend of #NXN qualifying at DyeStat.com.
