Live audiovisual show at @cobaltstudios.ouseburn is now on my YouTube, you can watch it via the link above! 📺

Last August, on the 7th anniversary of the Morwell project, I set my intention to step out of my reclusive anon producer persona and orient to live shows and DJ sets. With prev experience in bands as a background player (drums, keys, samplers), I knew I didn’t really want the limelight, but loved the possibility of curating a particular audiovisual experience - a “Gesamtkunstwerk”, even(!!) - you can judge how well this set meets those aims..

It explores different zones on an axis from more ambient / meditative / psychedelic to more physical / club / soundsystem focused - future sets can zero in more on one of these aspects, and bring in more improvisation too. So far, I’ve stemmed out tracks and done live mixing / FX and some live vocoder / chords on the vocals. Having just seen Beau Wanzer do some cool highly FXd vocals himself live, maybe I’ll even try this too??

Bookings maxmorwell @ gmail for a live A/V set or a DJ set where you are 🐻 Drop a comment or tag someone with an idea for where would be good!

Special thanks to @prsfoundation who provided funding for Cobalt to record their live shows - check out the archive on the @cobaltstudios.ouseburn youtube channel.

1. On the Inside (rework)

We are all heading for the abyss “at some forty-five hundred heartbeats an hour”, as Nabokov said.

In 2017 it was clear to me how much time I had used up already and I felt the urgency to start a creative practice.

Today I organised the 130 tracks released since into a zip (1Gb) lmk if you would like it. It’s been a pleasure to go from only listening to
@rinse.fm, @nts_radio, DJ sets, reading @thewiremagazine, @thequietus, FACT etc to becoming a (tiny) little contributor to the culture.

Fun things in the zip include compilation tracks you’ve likely never heard - one of my first releases was on a cassette comp that was covered in the Wire (no luck yet persuading Wire writers / editors to cover anything since, lol). Others range from @djmagofficial award winning comps and those pressed to vinyl that you have likely heard of to weird art projects that you likely haven’t.

I’ve tried to do it an adventurous spirit, a mix of following my own obsessions, exploring what is new and exciting in the culture, and making connections with friends and fellow travellers who fw the vision so far, s/o @setfiretoloraine @jossymitsu @object.blue @martha_radio @bam_bii @murraye_ @joemuggs @jasa_buzinel @kode9 @lcy__________ @jukebouncewerk @deejayearl @nmeshofficial +++

I’m putting a bow on this archive of everything so far because there is a lot more to come. Just getting started, baby.
Track ID: forthcoming.

it would be cool if a few people hosted this on Soulseek or as a torrent. I’m betting on Soulseek being here for the long run ✌️

Thanks for listening 🐻💜

Stems for @bam_bii ‘s Level Up available from Bambii! Shout out to @elenacolombi for an incredible set of deep, hypnotic and very proper 4-4 soundsystem music last night .. THIS is not deep or hypnotic, but it has that rugged physical DOOF and some super simple and scrappy drums with just the odd skip placed somewhere interesting .. I’d like to hear it somewhere loud .. not on your phone speaker 😭 If you love me, put on headphones 🥲 listen out also for the guitar chords which are borrowed from the Cure just for a bit of post punk dub adjacent (ok maybe 2nd cousin) flavour. ALSO tried a new thing on this one, creating new vocal variations with one of these dubious new tools- have to remember to cancel my trial sub unless I decide it’s worth doing more .. I don’t think you can even read a reel caption this long, but well done if you did 😎

Plane by @nadeemdingabisi is out today on @moshimoshimusic ! Produced and mixed by me, with additional vocals by @naimaadams_ , mastered by Rupert Clervaux.

This backing track evolves a lot and takes in everything from industrial glitch and distorted synths to soulful M1 piano chords. Love how easily Nadeem moves between those reference points and turns them towards his own subjects including history, identity, and belonging. Go listen to the whole track out everywhere now and watch Nadeem’s great video on YouTube!

More #newmusic to come bbs, stay tuned xx by @maxmorwell

In the mix on @radiostudent for @stutterstep160 with all new and unreleased tracks in the 160 zone 🧯

Love and thanks to @marka_san7 and @radiostudent who have a real vision for sounds and community. Always v happy to link with more nodes in the global soundsystem hive mind, especially in the Yugosphere - baby Morwell grew up in Zagreb and used to travel a lot to SLO. Then moved to the UK to be marinated in the hardcore continuum, all to be able to bring it back, this was surely always the universe's plan.

Track list to follow, is nearly all dubs tho. Plus some from the Trust EP which is just out!

You can find the mix on the cloud of sounds 🎧 it's the 19th episode of @stutterstep160 💪🔥

Got these guys together for a beautiful collab EP and it's nearly out!! Big up @thefootworkjungle @annamorgandj supporting and spreading the 160-jungle gospel worldwide from way back 🙏🌍🔥

You're not gonna get this through the phone speaker, but this one recalls for me the feeling of big soundsystems, from Aba Shanti-I at Brixton Rec to rave / reggae / jungle at the Dungeons on Lea Bridge Road. Letting go and trusting in the night, the experience, and the bass in your chest 🔊💗

In slide 2 it's @thebizzybscience and crew going back to the Dungeons arches remembering how things were set up there

In slide 3 it's the arches empty and the middle section of Trust. It's like The Caretaker doing rave.

In slide 4 it's old messages I still have (look how old) from that time 🥲

Thanks for the love with this one 🙏

2026 is going to continue with more collabs and link-ups, more 160, more guest shows and live shows - let's go 🚀✨ by @maxmorwell
